No Credit Card! What to do?

Ok, I purchased our upcoming trip with my husbands credit card. He will not be going with DD, DS, and I. We are staying at WL for 4 nights and are on the DDP.

Here is my problem, I do not have a credit card in my name to use when I check in. On all of our previous trips we have used his credit card and charge everything to that. What do I do without one? :confused3

(BTW - I applied for my own credit card and was denied. I have perfect credit and am a full time teacher. Sad, all I wanted was a card with a $500-$1,000 limit for this one trip and was told no by my bank!)

Could you put some money on an American Express, or visa gift card and just take that.

Have you husband add you on his card as an authorized user and request that they send you a card in your name. It should be no problem.

Thanks, I will try that! I just hope we can do all this in less than 34 days!

You do not need to have a card on file for charging privaleges. Just pay with cash as you go.

Or, I have heard you can put cash on your room so that you can use that for room charging with your key.

But you need to present the card that the room was booked with at check in...
having you as a supplementary card holder will work though!

I second this. I am an authorized user on my grandfather's credit accounts and we got rid of his cards and kept the ones with my name for safekeeping. It took me about 8 business days to get the new card - you should have no issues!

Getting your own card on your husband's account is a good solution for this trip.

However, I also would recommend that you start to establish your own credit. You'll never know if/when you'll need it a credit history to get a loan on your own. It could be that you can't get credit because you've never had it (no credit history does not equal perfect credit history). But, if you are employed and don't have anything bad on your credit report, it doesn't make sense that no one would give you a credit card with a small limit. I would keep trying (it doesn't have to be at your own bank). Once you get one, make small purchases on it and pay them off every month. That will establish your own credit rating but won't rack up debt!! Good luck!

Use online check in. You can put your DH's card on file and you don't have to show it upon arrival.

Some card issuers will allow you to add an authorized party online and have the card sent to the address on file. It usually takes about 7 to 10 BD:thumbsup2 Good luck!

Totally not trying to be rude here so please don't take this the wrong way, but as a teacher and if you have "perfect credit" how can you get turned down for a $1,000 credit card? I mean I live in Canada so it might be different, or the economy may just be THAT bad now, but I got a $1500 credit card as a full time student like 5/6 years ago. And even now as a part time student my credit card company keeps asking me to up my limit to like $5000.

You might want to check into why you aren't getting approved or keep trying with a different company. Look for a company (and card) that doesn't carry a lot of features. The more of a "points program" the card carries the more easily they will deny you.

I do wonder why someone with perfect credit and a job can't get a cc.

What I don't understand is why op's DH has his "own" credit card but she doesn't have a card to use on that account.:confused3 DH and I have a card on each other's cc accounts. The only cc I don't have a copy of is DH's cc that he uses only for work travel.

I do not have a credit card.

I give them my debit card just in case (just as a back up plan) but I also give them cash too. Usually $500 and then if I think I've used up that, I'll go down at the end of the day and give them some more cash.

By the time I leave, I pay the balance off or let the remainder go on my debit card.

It works well for me. :thumbsup2

But good luck getting another card in your name and try checking in online before you leave.

We never give Disney our CC info. We do not want charging priviledges on our KTTW, preferring to pay in cash. They have never asked to see our card at check in.

I did not have a credit card in my name either and recently had DH add me to his account as an authorized user. They sent the card out with my name on it within a week.

Have a magical trip!!!

If you have a debit card linked to your checking account, you can use that. My friend didn't have a cc either when she went down, while checking in she called her mother and her mother gave her info over the phone so she was able to charge then she just paid her mother back. Alot of work if you ask me. If you feel you need one, as pp said just get a prepaid.

I've always been a firm believer in both people in a couple establishing credit. When my DD turned 18 we had her apply for a Discover card. She got a low credit limit but got a card.

She is 18 and working part time while in college. She has used the card and always pays off the balance. The other day she got an application for a Visa. No annual fee and it has rewards. She applied and got approved for a $1500 limit. She is only 20 and works part time in college.

Even if you don't use the credit card regularly at least use the system to establish personal credit. If they gave her a Visa they should be able to give the OP a card.

I haven't worked in the banking industry for 10 years, but at that time, anyone who was declined for a loan was entitled to a free copy of their credit report from the credit bureau whose info was used to make the decision.

It was probably because of the "no credit" issue, but you may want to check your credit report to be sure their isn't any inaccurate info on it (such as from identity theft, etc.).

I'm a bit disturbed about why you were turned down for your own credit card. You say you are gainfully employed and can't get a credit card?

Do you let your DH handle all the finances?

I've heard about people who have let their spouse handle everything ... this is not a smart thing to do, even if your spouse is trustworthy. You need to be able to take care of things on your own should something happen (either divorce or accident/death). You should really not be in that kind of a vulnerable position, especially if you have children.

The first time I got a car loan (age 20), the bank wanted my Dad to co-sign ... I said NO, I have a good down payment and a full-time job. They got the manager involved and then they backed down.

I handle the finances in our family because my DH prefers it that way; however, I try to keep him in the loop in the event something should happen to me. We have our expenses and or various credit cards in one or the others names ... so we both have a credit history on our own and together.

I've made sure that both of my children as young adults established their own credit history and have "walked them through" good financial practices.
