No cottage pie at Rose & Crown!!!???

ITA! The food offerings are becoming less while the menus are becoming more generic. For us the DDP is no longer a feasable option for us and would rather choose to eat off-site for most of our dinner meals.

I'm don't understand what is generic about the menus. Yes, most places offer a steak (at least one), so you could eat a steak every single day if you wanted. But if you wanted variety, you could eat in 42 restaurants for 21 days straight and never eat the same dish twice.

R&C: bangers and mash, curried chicken satay, potato and leek soup, fish and chips, Irish coffee trifle, sticky toffee pudding, chocolate Guinness torte

Nine Dragons: Chicken and Shrimp Shao Mai, Hot and Sour Soup, Xinjiang style Lamb chops, Beijing Duck

Chefs de France: Tomato and goat cheese tarte, salmon tartare, Lobster bisque, Roasted flounder with lobster mousse, lamb shank with turnips, carrots, lima beans and pearl pasta, Rhubarb and blueberry compote on a macaroon, coulis and mango sorbet and caramelized almonds, Strawberry mousse cake with fresh berries and lemon sorbet

Le Cellier: cheddar cheese soup, Crab and Salmon Timbale, 7 oz. Filet Mignon - glazed with maple barbecue sauce and accompanied by cream cheese mashed potatoes, Grilled Pork Tenderloin - sweet potato puree, Apple Arugula Salad, and Sherry-Bacon Vinaigrette, Strawberries and Balsamic Ice Cream, Maple Creme Brulee

Marrakesh: Roast Lamb Meshoui, Chicken or Seafood Bastilla, Lemon Chicken, Couscous with Seven Vegetables, Harira Soup - traditional hearty soup flavored with tomatoes, lentils and lamb, Crepes Atlas - apple crepes with cinnamon topped with ice cream and almonds

OK...how is this generic? These restaurants aren't serving anything even close to the same thing. And this is just a sampling of 5 restaurants in Epcot alone.

The menu looks authentic to me. British food is...well...

"I'll bet what motivated the British to colonize so much of the world is that they were just looking for a decent meal." - Martha Harrison.

"Today in Iraq, American and British troops handed out food to hundreds of Iraqis. But to no surprise the Iraqis handed the British food back." - Conan O'Brien

It doesn't have the best reputation, but much of that scorn is really undeserved. Good British food is...good.

Of course when it's less than good, we in the UK simply put the shortfall down to unfortunate trans-atlantic influences :rotfl2:

I believe LiteBrite is correct. For dinner, I think they had a pie sampler - a small portion of cottage pie was one of three in that entree. They allowed me to have all cottage pie, even though it was not on the menu by itself. (This was about 3 years ago)

IIRC, the cottage pie has only been available at lunch for several years now. If you've had the cottage pie at R&C for dinner, feel free to correct me.

I did have the cottage pie last July 06 for dinner and several dinners prior to that in 06 and 05 - not part of any pie sampler....just cottage pie. I am 100% sure I had it in July for dinner because some kid at the next table threw up all over and it totally ruined my appetite:guilty: .....not a dining experience to forget.;)

We were just at R & C for dinner on May 20.....there was no pie sampler or anything at all similar to cottage pie on their dinner menu. DD and I were very much looking forward to having it & would have settled for anything close. I asked the waitress about it and she said only on the lunch menu......she didn't even say it was available on the kids' menu....DD could have at least ordered it in that case.

PS.....I do not remember any stew on the dinner menu....that would have been preferable to the pork I ordered which was bland and dry. I ordered mashed potatos as a side and they were plain and blah, too.

Good posting...The talk of "generic" or "dumbed down" menus is just another talking point of those who do not like the DDP. Whether or not it is factual never really seems to come up. I am sure it will come up again in the next weekly edition of "Why the DDP is ruining WDW".

I'm from the UK and there is no way that i would eat cottage pie,i don't know what all the fuss is about. What the R&C call British food is enough to put off anyone wanting to eat in the UK:rotfl:

Kind of off topic, but if you haven't tried the vegetable curry wrap in the phyllo pastry, it's wonderful. That is, assuming it's still there! Anyone know?

But the cottage pie at the R & C is soooo good. I don't know how British it is, but it's GOOD!

I had the cottage pie for dinner in August 2006.

This thread is making me a bit nervous about our ADR's at Rose and Crown for dinner. I was looking forward to it but now I am not sure. I guess as long as there is steak for my fussy one and fish and chips for the other guys we will be all set. Now I need to find something else since I was thinking about the beef stew! Nothing like planning ahead.

I don't remember a beef stew but they did have an excellent lamb and barley stew when we were there last.

We were just there last week and the menu has changed some since last August. It's no longer on the menu as cottage pie. Now it is listed as shepherd's pie. It wasn't nearly as good this time around.

eye yi yi... we just made a reservation for the r&c sunday, we were so excited based on the menu on this board and the recommendations from people, but I have now looked at the menu on the other board and it seems to have less offerings...
Has everyone cancelled thier reservation and that's why we got in? ;)
anyway, seems reports on the "new" menu vary, I had once seen photo's of menus on these boards, does anyone have one?
