I can't decide if it is worth the effort to separate out the things I am buying for our upcoming vacation in July. We'll be driving about 7 hours each way to Williamsburg (I've never done a long car trip like this with the girls:scared:) I can't decide whether it will be more of a headache than it's worth since I am stocking up now while things are on sale...

Thanks Paula for the great advice ... wish I had seen it before I hit the Disney Store though :goodvibes I ended up spending $150 for several things for the kids for the next few summers (Ts, sunglasses, flipflops) as well as pjs for DD for the winter. My youngest son gets my oldest son's hand me downs but I don't usually buy second hand. I sell all my kiddos clothing once they're done though and because I buy everything at super sale prices, I get a pretty good return on the clothing once they're finished with it.

I probably didn't need these things though... actually, I know I didn't need these things so in retrospect, I should have passed especially considering how many things broke down last month and busted our budget. We don't have credit card debt (pay off every month) but we do have a line of credit that I'm hoping to have paid off by the end of the year. Once the debt is paid, I'm taking a leave of absence from work to stay home with the kiddos for a few years.

Went to Publix today. I have been doing good on the impulse shopping so far this month. I had to go to Macy's...and walked past all of the nice designer jeans......but resisted. Usually that is me and my daughter's temptations. Getting much better though.

I'm not doing so good this month and I'm learning where all our money goes. Eating out is a bad trend here. Next step is to learn to get a menu together.

I've started putting "meal ideas" on the fridge so at the moment it reads something like this -
- Risotto
- Curry
- Roast
- Omelette
- Soup & Sandwich
- Pasta
- Schnitzel

Next to some of them I've put sides or things that need to be used up with that particular meal or a more descriptive comment.

It means that there is none of that "what's for dinner?" issue when we get home from work as we have all the ingredients to make the items above. I review it each week when I get the groceries

I've been really good yesterday and today with dinner - DH is away with work, so last night I reheated some leftovers for dinner then later in the evening I made a risotto - froze it into 4 meals and left some in the fridge for tonight.

Then tonight I reheated the risotto, fried some mushrooms and capsicums and at the same time I cooked some brown rice for tomorrows dinner. I'm am very well organised now - and there is absolutely no excuse for me to get takeaways!

Tomorrow will be curry and as the sauce is out of a packet, it'll be just cooking some veges and adding the sauce then serving over the rice.

9th - $0
8th - $0
7th - $0
6th - $0
5th - $6.50 for dinner
4th - $0
3rd - $0
2nd - $0
1st - $0

And even better I found a $5 note when I went for a walk at lunch time - it had been out overnight in the rain and then 50 cents when I walked the dogs. I guess exercise is good for you LOL

I love the 'meal ideas' list. I started doing something similar this week. Took out the recipe books and found 5 things that we have ingredients for. One thing I'm learning though is that its tough to save money on groceries and start an exercise/healthy eating regime at the same time. We were doing great on groceries and the past two weeks DH and I have cut out all treats and junk and are limiting pasta, crackers etc. for us and the kiddos. We used to eat so much pasta that even tho it was whole wheat, it wasnt really good for any of us. The kids have always eaten a lot of fruit but for us to switch to so much fruit and veggies for lunches and snacks is killing my budget.

OK my weakness is eating out at lunch. So I would like to put that to a stop. I am vowing to bring my lunch everyday for the rest of the month. This also includes my DH, but he doesn't know it yet. I figure we can easily save $50/week let alone how many calories we will save! I will have to start tom. b/c we didn't plan on today and we need to buy a few things at the grocery store tonight. Wish me luck - I've tried before and made it only about a week. I'll keep you posted!!

DH starts a new job that's 50% work from home :cheer2: I think the eating out bill will go down but I have to think about good lunches to feed him now that he'll be here more . I am not a fabulous cook:upsidedow.
