No Buy January 2010

I needed milk, apparently we ran out yesterday when I was at the store but I had not realized. I swear I should just buy milk and bread every time I go anywhere. Anyway, We also only had wheat bread which DD7 haes so I wanted bread and milk. For Christmas I was given a Wegman's gift card, so I went and got bread and milk. I thought it was a $5 gift card so I figured rather then having a couple bucks on it that I might forget about I'd get a box of my diet cereal that is on sale. Still having a little extra I got a deoderant (the kids we use anyway) that was on sale for $.69. I got to the register to pay and realized it was a $10 card, so I paid and took my stuff to the car and went and bought another box of cereal and 3 deoderants.

So, 4 Secrets, a gallon of milk, a loaf of bread and 2 boxes of Special K--- loved that gift card, it saved me today!

So, today I spent $0!!!

What a great idea for a thread. Surprisingly, I had not seen this before. I am Dave Ramsey fan and limit my spending as much as possible. A lot of people out there don't understand. I will follow and use the support (and may even post from time to time).

1-7-10 Decided to pay the pork off today, $296. and $6.00 for the kids lunches.
My big goal this month is the food budget so far I have $559.97 left of my $900. budget. I include school lunches, eating out and my pork and beef purchases out of here so it really is the worst month for me this way, they are both due this month, but I figure if I can make it this month than other months should be easy if I just pay attention to it.

I am posting early today. Going nowhere, weather is horrible. Really helps the bottom line. :lmao:

Today I will be going through my seeds and catalogs and making up my order, so tomorrow I will probably be spending to place my order. This will come out of food money hopefully. I saved a bunch of my own seeds last year so I shouldn't need as much as I have ordered in the past.

Chicken order will be next, need new chicks for meat birds, DH will butcher them. Trust me, if you met me and DH on the street you would have no idea the crazy things we do around here. The people I work with at my corporate job, would probably fall over in shock if they knew. I think it's a hoot. ;)

Today I finally got an email from our photographer saying our Christmas pictures are FINALLY done. Since it is insanely late, she gave us a 50% discount, as well as deduct the sitting fee that we paid for. So....I ended up spending $160 today on the digital files, but since I had planned on buying those last month (and saved over $300!!) I'm not counting that towards this month's budget. I can't wait to get the pictures!

The weather is yuck here so I'm not even sure if we'll head out to swim lessons or not tonight. We'll have to wait and see esp since I'm not sure if they'll close schools early so that would interfere with swim lessons as well.
Other than grabbing a dozen eggs so I can make muffins we shouldn't be spending anything else.

Tomorow I know I am spending $4.85 for a pizza dinner for me, the DH and the tot. Not bad. The Tea I got today is so big I might not get one tomorow:)

I Looove this thread. I am doing so much better than the $5 here and there every morning for food! I hope I can keep it up, because last month was crazy how much I spent!

I so love to track things like this, becasue I am being so careful I am at under $300 for the first week of January. I am tracking all spending no matter what--anything I whip that credit card out for gets counted--groceries, gas, as well as anything I pay cash for!

It's snowing and the roads are bad, so no grocery shopping or refueling today. I should have enough kitten food to last the night; if not I guess they get extra canned food and extra treats!
