No ASI this year

I finally read the final race instructions and it looks as though Brightroom is the official photographer company this year. In the races that I have run where they were present, I think the service is a little quicker. I do not recall pricing differentials.

I am not happy to hear this. I have not been pleased with Brightroom races, most recently the Wine and Dine.

I thought Brightroom did a pretty crappy job at the W&D this year. It only makes it easier to turn down their overpriced packages.

But to be fair ASI did a crappy job at W&D #1.... I hope it the dark more than the service. At least I know I have issues taking photos in the dark

Some of these companies use the same photographers. They aren't necessarily shipped in from wherever the company is based..they use locals and contract it out. At least that's been my experience at races around Texas. Some of my friends have done photography for several companies.

Now...whether or not the photos are good depends on the skill of the photographer they hire. some are good, and some are not.

Will be interested to see the difference. Can't imagine they can charge too much different than asi?

I've done a couple races that used Brightroom and the results were always TERRIBLE. Also, lots of "lost" photos that had very clear bib numbers on them.

Then again, I've thought ASI was pretty poor the last couple years at WDW, too. Is it just me, or did they have very few photographers out during the last couple marathon weekends?

They did a horrible job at the Disneyland HM compared to what I saw from the Princess this year (and it's not in the dark). I did notice that they migrated my Princess photos over to Britherroom so I guess they do work together. Hopefully they do better this time.

I think everyone will have different perspectives on the photography companies that are used for the Disney races. My photos from the Disneyland Half marathon were much better than my Princess race photos, both in 2011 (ASI did the Princess and Brightroom the DL). So make sure to keep smiling during the race and you never know how the photos will turn out. :)
Happy Running!
Pam

I guess my perspective on the photo works is different, also. Frankly, when I hear crappy work, I think no focus, poor light, blurred. I just do not see that. If crappy is "I am not in any", well that is a different story and usually not the photographer's fault. You can usually blame the runner in front of you if you need to blame someone.

Tips

Know where the photographers are going to be. They will tell you at the expo if asked, or at least the main spots. THere are other surprise locations that they tend to not talk of, but that is usually where overflow folks are sent. Plan on Main, Coming out of the castle, Dinoland, running away from the Sorcerer's hat, France coming up the hill....

You can usually tell where one is because most flash through the early AM. slow up just a bit to give some gap. They cannot see you is you are behind someone.

Conversely, one of my biggest peeves are the camera hogs who run side to side coming out of the castle looking to get as many photos as possible. STOP IT if you are one. If you want a sure bet phot in front of the castle, pull off course left after coming off the ramp. There is a photographer there taking special shots.

Make sure you bib is seen. As I look through lost and found, there are a high percentage of photos where only part of the bib is viewable.

Give the service time to sort. All services run through photos through software to sort out numbers. THis is not 100% perfect. If you wait a few days, you may have more photos appear. If you have some that are not your, please email customer service about the photo. That runner may be looking for their photo.

Remember there are 45000+ runners and only 50-80 photographers. You may not be in many or any.
