NJ & Sandy

Ok, my dh needs to stop looking out the window. This is the 2nd tree that went down (3rd so far) while he was watching! Thank goodness this one fell in an empty area, but the roots were ripped right out of the ground. Sigh...

Hubby made it home!!! The bridges were closing at 2pm for trucks, campers and motorcycles. I told Acme theyre nuts thinking Im gonna come in!!!

Not too bad here right now in Sewell NJ. But I'm really worried about my condo in Margate. :scared: I just hope we don't lose power. And tonight is a Hunter's Moon!! Hunter and Sandy are like some couples I know... not good for each other or those around them. :sad2:
:goodvibes to all in Sandy's path.
Nancy :grouphug:

Mercer county here again. We lost power for about an hour but it's back on now. I had to make an emergency visit to the vet with one of our pets & it was really bad driving. It was hard keeping the car on the road.

That happened to us during the last storm a year ago. It took DH 1 1/2 hours to drive 8 miles to the vet (dog swallowed a needle).

Things are blowing around here!

I'm in South Jersey and Sandy is rolling in really good now. We still have power but don't know how long that will last. Landfall is supposed to be about 20 or 25 miles south of us within the next hour. Tremendous flooding on the barrier islands (Atlantic City, Brigantine, Margate, Ventnor, Longport, Ocean City.). Bay flooding and street flooding here on the mainland. Very gusty and rainy now. Sandy is moving faster now so hopefully she'll get inland quickly before high tide.
Lights are flickering but holding. Next few hours should be about it except for the flooding.

Yeppers.

Wonder what will happen w/ the convention supposedly happening next week?

I hadn't thought of that yet. Would they move it to Trenton? I'm still just scrambling with next weeks lessons plans.

Gov. Christie does not seem happy with the mayor of AC.

Gloucester County here. Winds are REALLY whipping up now. Small tree fell in my neighbors yard just missing their shed. They just fixed the shed after another tree fell on it during a storm few weeks ago. actually that is the third that fell there since they moved in 5 months ago!!! SHOCKED we still have power since we usually lose it during small wind storms. I think now that we are soooo prepared for power going out I'm gonna be sad if it doesn't. I know that sounds crazy. And my Acme stayed open...who the hell will be shopping in this??????????

Lost power in Manalapan. In-laws, brother, and others that DD know are also out.

Generator is going, my house is wired. My sump pump is a pumpin, my fridge is cold, dh hooked up the fios and 1 tv/cable box so we have the news and of course the net. :rotfl2:

I am in the kitchen with led battery lights as I cook!!

Wind is blowing outside. My outdoor deck lost another screen, and I have lost some roof tiles.

Hang in there and stay safe everybody!

It's gonna be a bumpy ride!!

Gloucester County, too. Keep hearing the wind whistling. My DH has the TV on loud so it kind of covers the sound. I'm so surprised we have power, a few hours ago the lights dimmed a little, but still on.

I sure wish we could be the lucky street where they don't go off. AC Electric says most in SJ will lose electric for 48 hours to a week. By then my basement will be flooded and we'll lose water heater and heater. I really don't want to deal with any of that.

OMY!!!!
thank goodness it didn't fall on the house.

I hope your DD stays safe. Personally, I would have come further inland if I lived in Tuckerton.

DD went to her friend's house (3rd floor apt) but around 5 decided to drive a few miles to her friend's house up the road. No sooner did she get there, the skylight blew out! She said "Mom, we shoulda just stayed at your house." Of course it was way too late for that decision! :worried:
I feel bad because she and all her friends have little ones, and the stress levels are so high, the kids are picking up on it, and they're all wound up.
Another tree went down...that's 3 in my court today!

Mercer county here too, checking in. Rain has not been too bad, considering. Some scary high winds at times. A few large branches came down in the backyard, and a top of a tree broke off in the front, that one is probably 20+ ft & will need need to cut into pieces to get it to the curb. Lucky nothing has landed on the roof or cars yet. Power has gone out twice, first for 10-15 minutes & then for maybe 5 minutes, but is back on. We are still hanging in there.

Worried that a prolonged power outage will flood the basement (without working sump pumps)-- but so far so good. Stay safe everyone!

Sent from my iPad using DISBoards App, please excuse any typos.

How is everyone? Taking advantage of some power, the flashing and transformers blowing are continuing.
The wind sounds like a freight train.

Clifton here. We still have power *knock on wood*. It's incredibly loud and windy outside, and there are transformers blowing all over the place -- but we're safe! Hope everyone else is, too :goodvibes
