NJ & Sandy

Monmouth County here.

Our schools are closed until Wed at the earliest. I am so upset that I didn't bring my letter of recommendation folder home. I wanted to get the last 4 letters done by the end of Oct. It probably won't happen.

The monmouth mall is closed for Monday and Tuesday. My ds works for jcp and they called him yesterday about their closure.

Stay safe.

Howdy neighbor! Monmouth here too (Western), and Freehold Mall is also closed. They like never close not even during the blizzards!

Gloucester County here...some rain and gusty winds. My husband had to work in Philly today. Hoping the walt whitman bridge stays open so he can get home. I work at Acme and we are NOT closing. Guess they don't care about the employees that have to work this evening!!!! Be safe everyone!!!

Hi, Neighbor! My husband works in Philly, also, but he is working from home today. Stay safe!

Garden State Parkway closed both ways gang. Hope all your loved ones are home and safe.

I thought I saw bridges in and out of philly were closing at 2pm. I hope they let him leave early so he can get home.

That is ridiculous that acme is staying open. Be safe

Checking in from Brick. The tree in front of our house just split and landed in our yard. No damage thank goodness, and hopefully there was no damage when the tree at the end of the court fell on my neighbor's BMW!
The lights have flickered a couple of times, but so far so good. All my kids are safe, although not home with us. DD (who lives in Tuckerton) said they lost power.

Keeping our fingers crossed!

I'm crying as I see some of the photos from LBI - even though we go to Barnegat Light it's just so sad to see parts of that beautiful island under water and the damage

Please everyone stay safe!

We've been feeling the effects since early morning but so far no major flooding in our area (Hillsborough, NJ) - a couple of the streets that usually flood are starting to flood and the bridge into Manville from Bridgewater is closed.

Please everyone pray for the people of Manville - that poor town was just recovering from Irene and now it looks like it will be under water again!

OMY!!!!
thank goodness it didn't fall on the house.

I hope your DD stays safe. Personally, I would have come further inland if I lived in Tuckerton.

My In-laws live in Manville and they said their street is lined with moving trucks and trailers from the people in the "Lost valley" area of the town emptying their houses.

Ya know, she's 20 and we tried to tell her the storm could be really bad, but you know how kids that age are. She's only lived there for a couple of months. Now she's heeding what we said but it was too late for her to really go anywhere. GRRR!
Yes, the NJ coastline will probably not resemble what it did before the storm. Very sad.

Camden County here-- just got notifications that stated that major highways in Camden County are flooded.

Burlington county here. DH was on 73 to Berlin early this morning (6:30) and was already getting big puddles. Work sent him home. I work in gibbsboro and closed today. Not sure about tomorrow

Checking in from Atlantic City. Not good. At all. From the pictures I've seen, most of AC and Ventnor are under water. The dunes in Ventnor were no match for the ocean. There's an 80 foot piece of the inlet section of the AC boardwalk that has been ripped away and is floating down streets. All of this and the worst is yet to come.

My boss lives in ventnor but evacuated yesterday.

And it is only going to get worse. Water levels are already above what we saw with Irene and this is during low tide. As the water comes up during the night it is going to get scary. Then add the winds... I am praying for those on the coast.

We are actually going to be dealing with wind gusts here of 50+ MPH. I really hope we don't lose power but I did get a delivery of extra oxygen tanks this afternoon just in case.

And this might be blunt, but the people who don't evacuate really peeve me off. They are putting not only themselves in danger, but those who will have to rescue them. Do they not understand that by staying there is a very good chance there won't be anyone who can come help them because it will be too dangerous? Are they so blind to the danger? Honestly, they should be charged money for any resources they use up if they don't evacuate when they were told to.

I agree with you completely, and I'll take it a step further...if someone doesn't evacuate when they are told to, then they should not expect rescue at all until the danger is past. I don't believe rescuers should have to risk their lives for people who CHOOSE to put themselves in harms way like these people are doing.

I agree. I think I just heard on the news that something like HALF of the shore people did not evacuate! :furious:

We were in OCNJ last year at a hotel at 10th St. and the boardwalk. It rained heavily for about 15 minutes and the street flooded close to a foot. With that in mind, who in their right mind would choose to stay in town during a hurricane of any size or shape??? Nobody swims THAT well.

My thoughts are with all of you guys in NJ. My heart breaks looking at those pics of LBI, we love it there and really hope all the people still there are able to safely make it out :goodvibes

Sewell/Mullica Hill--huge changes here, very very heavy rain, lots of winds. My lawn and mulch beds flooded out. Winds are really bad. Storm due to hit coast in about 2/3 hours.

Seriously! We were there for Labor Day week and it rained for a little bit and the water was coming up from the storm drains. I can't imagine what it would look like now.

Mercer county here again. We lost power for about an hour but it's back on now. I had to make an emergency visit to the vet with one of our pets & it was really bad driving. It was hard keeping the car on the road.
