Day 4, Part 1 ANIMAL KINGDOM AND FANTASMIC
Crew: DH, DD1, DD2 and me (DW)
Today was Monday and since tomorrow we would be checking out of the AKL, we headed to the Animal Kingdom when it opened. The first thing we did was run and get a FassPass for the Safari. Even with getting there soon after the park opened, there was already a 45 minute wait. We spent some time in Asia checking out all the birds and spoke with a CM who feeds them. Since it was feeding time, he was showing us how they feed certain birds without other birds infringing on the food. It was quite comical to see a flock of ducks trying to attack him as he fed a different group. Each time he would turn and take one step, they would scurry away, but as soon as his back was turned ..there they came again.
When we were able to, DD1 and I ran to get FPs for Kali River Rapids. Then we headed back to the Safari for the tour. The story line hasnt changed much since we first ventured on this safari six years ago, but there were definitely more animals out and about that morning. We saw hippos (well, about one-fifth of the hippos) soaking in the water their heads were barely above the water just enough to breath. We saw some elephants and baby elephants, numerous types of antelope and when we got near the rock sure enough the lion and his lioness were out. When our safari bus rolled by, the lion obliged all of us and stood up and posed for us. The lioness, however, was in mid-dream and did not move an inch. There was a little boy in the seat behind us and he wanted to get out and give the Simba some of his cheese very cute!
After the safari, we headed over to Kali River Rapids DH and DD2 sat across from us, we had a newlywed couple between DH, DD2 and DD1 and myself. The other occupants were a dad and son. Two seats remained empty. The newlywed wife said whenever she rides these types of rides she always gets soaked. True to form, she and her husband got the brunt end of the rapids and we came through with minimal wetness. However, it was very hot and muggy so we didnt care if we got wet or not. I personally thought the KRR would be a little more than it was -- longer in length I guess. We had one short drop and then one long one. Too short a ride -- in my estimation -- if I had to stand in line longer than 15 minutes -- use FP!!!!!
Camp Minnie/Mickey was finally open so we headed there for some photo ops and autographs. Lilo and Stitch were the first characters we came across then we met Flick from a Bugs Life. The line for Minnies autograph wasnt too bad and they had fans blowing so it was comfortable while standing in line we noticed a small group of people through the trees and realized Mickey was in his hut and there were only 3 or 4 people in line. Right after Minnie we headed over to Mickey, DD2 got his autograph and photo we also were able to catch Goofy, Pluto, Donald and a group from Brother Bear.
We headed over to Its Tough to be a Bug what a hoot that show is! We all thoroughly enjoyed it from getting stung in the back to the bugs running under our seats at the end of the show. We saw Festival of the Lion King and heard some of the music from Pocahontas. By this time it was really getting hot and unbearable at the AK so we headed back to the AKL. As we were leaving the park, there were more characters signing autographs so we got to meet Rafiki, Pluto, one of the gorillas from Tarzan, Suzy and Perla from Cinderella.
Time to go cool off before Fantasmic tonight!
