Day 2, Part 2

DD1 and DD2 and I change into our swimsuits and head down to the pool. There were NO chairs anywhere around the pool. Prime time afternoon swimming I guess. We walked around awhile and found a chair with nothing on it and asked a lady two chairs down if she knew if it was taken and she said “no”. At that point, a young woman came rushing out of the pool and said that chair was hers and to look elsewhere. NO PROBLEM – so we headed to the other side of the pool near the slide. We moved a chair under a group of trees, left our sandals, towels and cover-ups and headed into the pool.

The AKL pool has a green tinted bottom so the water does not look crystal clear. DD2 headed off toward the slide and as DD1 and I are entering the pool, DD1 says “the water is so warm” to which I respond “of course, it’s from all the kids peeing in it today” – it was so funny – she was so grossed out she almost left the pool! We swam around awhile and people watched. The lifeguards tired to get a group together to paint an Ostrich egg for $20.00 but there were no takers.

After we cooled off in the warm pool ;-) we went back to the room to get ready for dinner. We had PS for 1900 Park Fare – and DD2 was about to dine with Cinderella and Price Charming! Side note: although we had been to WDW six years ago, we stayed off site and didn’t know about character meals. This was our first adventure of staying on-site at Disney and we were excited about meeting some characters and getting a look at the Grand Floridian.

The Grand Floridian is a beautiful hotel! When you arrive, the entrance to the character dinner is to the left as you enter the lobby. I checked us in and we were given a beeper. We sat down and watched the mayhem begin. Goofy had just arrived to entertain the guest prior to seating and it was a stroller frenzy to get the kiddies close to Goofy for pictures. My Gosh, you would have thought it was Brad Pitt! We watched the frantic parents push their kids close to Goofy for a photo op. Once some of the families were seated, DD2 walked up to Goofy, asked him for an autograph and if she could have her picture taken with him. Thus, her first autograph of the trip!

We were seated very soon after our arrival and we had a table for four near the buffet stations. They have a buffet station for the kids and another for the adults. Our waitress told us we all could eat from either station. The girls got up to check out the food and Prince Charming came by – no problem he said – he would be back. After the girls came back, DH and I got up and got our plates of food – which consisted of pastas, prime rib, lasagna, salads, shrimp – I can’t remember what else they had. After the girls had their salads, they got up to get their main course – and who shows up but Prince Charming – again he said “no problem, I’ll be back”.

First the mice came to visit us – Suzy and then Perla. Shortly thereafter, Prince Charming came by again, but the girls were up getting dessert! “No problem, I’ll be back”. Finally, the girls were in their seats when he did return! I thought we would be there all night waiting for that connection. We had one more character to meet – Cinderella. Just about the time we finished up there she came – Cinderella. DD2 was pleased to meet her – and although Cinderella is a Princess – Ariel ranks at the top in our house!

After dinner we roamed around the GF – checked out the shops, sat in the lobby and listened to the piano player. In one of the shops, we finally got DD1 to put on a set of Bride Mouse-ears! She swore she would never wear them, but I was able to snap a photo of her wearing them so I have blackmail material in the years to come.

We headed back to the AKL to get some sleep – after all, we were dining with the Princesses at Epcot first thing in the morning!

I like your reports. Good thing you label them well, I'd have been lost!!! Thanks for sharing.

The food at 1900 Park Fare was much better than we expected for a buffet. As you will see when I finish the trip reports, my family likes to eat well.

The prime rib was good, the lasagna was very good -- we were all pleasantly surprised at the quality of food at Disney. I wouldn't hesitate to book 1900 Park Fare again.princess:

That is so cute about Prince Charming. Sounds like the meal was a big hit. Now if only Ariel was there. ;)
