Day 2 – MGM here we come

Crew: DH, DD1, DD2 and me (DW)

MGM was the early entry park for Saturday (6/26) so we decided to take advantage of that. We got up and had breakfast in the room (granola bars, etc.). None of us are big breakfast eaters. Yesterday we had discovered that if you cut through the AKL gift shop from the lobby, you can exit on the other side of the building near the bus stops. Since it was warm out, we decided to begin taking advantage of this.

Quite a few other people were waiting to board the MGM/Blizzard Beach bus. So we waited….first came AK bus, then EPCOT bus, then MK bus, then EPCOT bus, finally….after about half an hour, the MGM bus arrived. Although the bus was not overly crowded, some people had to stand. The first stop was Blizzard Beach – about half the people got off here. On we went to MGM. We did arrive sometime around 8:30 a.m. and the CM’s were checking resort i.d.’s in order to allow resort guests in for the extra hour of magic.

The first place we headed was Tower of Terror – to get FastPasses. We left DH and DD2 on a bench near the front of the park while DD1 and I took off toward the ToT and Rockin’ Roller Coaster. The FastPass machines for the ToT were out of order so we grabbed FP’s for the Rockin’ Roller Coaster and then headed back to pick up DH and DD2.

We headed over to the Great Movie Ride. Although DD2 (and DD1) had been on this ride six years ago – the last time we visited Disney – neither one of them remembered it. After that, we headed over to the Rockin Roller Coaster for our FP’s. When we got near the ToT, the ride line was short so DD1 and DD2 decided they would go on this ride. DH and I sat down and waited for them to return – we were hesitant whether DD2 would actually ride this or chicken out. Although she never rode it again during the trip, DD2 did ride the ToT once and every time we passed the building during the duration of the week, she would say “I rode that”.

We then headed over to the Rockin Roller Coaster and used our FastPass. Once we got near the loading of the limousines – DD2 chickened out (as did the kids in front of us). DH took DD2 out while DD1 and I rode. I haven’t been on a Roller Coaster in 20 years – so I conquered a fear! Thank you Steven Tyler!

The next stops on our trek were the Beauty and Beast Show and Voyage of the Little Mermaid. After the Backlot Tour, we felt we had done enough of the park and headed back to the AKL to swim. After leaving the park, we headed to the bus stop and waited for the AKL bus. This is where Disney could improve. There is no seating in this area to wait for the bus. We ended up sitting on the concrete in the sun – for 45 minutes while we waited for the bus. Once it arrived the driver got off and told everyone that Blizzard Beach was closed due to capacity and would not reopen until mid-afternoon.

We loaded up on the bus and stopped at Blizzard Beach to pick up anyone who wanted to head back to the resort. People still got OFF the bus – and the bus driver kept telling them – “you do realize the park is closed” and they said yes and kept getting off!

Once we got back to the AKL, we decided we wanted to grab a light lunch and started looking for Mara. We had to ask two CM’s before we got correct directions. Although the grilled chicken sandwiches DD1 and I had were good, the hassle of getting them didn’t make up for it. DH had the fish sandwich (which took forever to cook) and DD2 didn’t like anything available, so I split my lunch with her.

After lunch we decided we wanted to go to the pool. DH’s back and leg were bothering him, so he decided to take a nap while we girls went to the pool. Ah, but can we find a chair??????????
