Day 1, Part 2

We waited at the AKL bus stop for the Downtown Disney bus for about 20 minutes. The driver was very funny – he had us singing Disney songs! Once we arrived we headed to the Marketplace to go through the shops and find somewhere to eat. We headed to the Rainforest Café and was able to walk right in. It was now around noon and we were very surprised we didn’t have a wait.

Although I’ve heard the service at the Rainforest Café is slow, and we had a new waitress (she told us she’s been in Florida for three weeks), we found the service to be good and the food was very good (or we were extremely hungry). We took our time eating – DH had buffalo wings and a personal pizza, DD1 had a personal pizza, DD2 had the kiddie hotdog meal and I had the chicken barbecue wrap. I believe DH also had a couple beers.

After lunch we walked around the shops, bought a few little things and headed back to the bus stop. We waited about 10 minutes for the bus to the AKL. Once we returned, DH, DD1 & DD2 decided to check out the gift shop while I checked on our room. I sat down in the lobby and called the number given to me by the Cast Member and found our room was indeed ready. We were given room 3512 on Zebra trail. After gathering the troops, we located the room. We had a savannah view – the room had two queen beds, one dresser (which also held the t.v.) thus allowing us only two drawers for a family of 4. There was a table and two chairs in the room also.

After evaluating the drawer space, and knowing we would only be in this hotel for four nights, we decided to live out of our suitcases. Luckily – and thanks to the Disboards – I had packed DH, DD2 and my outfits in ziplock bags so it was very easy to retrieve an outfit out of the suitcase with ease. I did hang DH's shirts in the closet (the ones he would wear at dinner) to get some of the wrinkles out. We put our passports and extra money in the safe (and it is tiny). We had PS for the California Grill at 7:30 – it was about 3:30 so we wanted to take a power nap – we’ve been working on minimal sleep. DD2 sat out on the balcony and watched the animals through her binoculars – and then she came in and colored in her Disney coloring books, letting us all sleep for an hour or so.

Once we had a power nap, we began taking showers and getting ready for dinner. The AKL is somewhat dark and the bathroom is extremely dark. There is one light in the bathroom and because the cover was missing, I was able to see they had a 52 watt bulb in the socket. Ah well, showering in dim light is romantic, right?

Those large plastic bags are awesome for packing! Thanks for your report! :)

Great trip report. Looking forward to the next one. I love the idea about the ziplock bags. I am going to try that on our next trip. It would make it so much easier getting dressed in the morning. Don's want to waste any Disney minutes. :p
