Nikon D3000 camera need tips please!

Ok so I have this beautiful professional grade camera with both the 18-55 mm lens and the 55-200 lenses. I cant seem to get through the user guide (it reads like stereo instructions to me) and the professional photographer friend I have moved to Kuwiat to take pictures for the military. I am open to any and all tips that you guys can give out!

First tip........... hang out here. Read all the new threads that pop up. Start your own when you don't understand something.

How about the Dummies guide for your camera? Not that I think you're a dummy! I just enjoyed the one for my camera because it was easy to understand, easy to work through and was well illustrated. I never COULD make it through the manual.

Then pick up Bryan Peterson's Understanding Exposure. The most important thing you can learn is the exposure triangle. It will all start to make more sense once you do. And this book is great for that.

Have fun........ and get out there and shoot!

Try the Scott Kelby books I found those to be helpful,I also liked the Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson.I bought a cheat sheet from Photocheatsheets.com which comes in handy from timt to time.And the old stand by the manual.You can ask almost any type of question here and get an answer,you know their are tons of forums out their but don't forget to have fun

I will look into both of those books as well as buying a cheat sheet from that site you suggested. I can do the pretty basic things with my camera but beyond that I'm lost in the sauce and duno the flavor I'm pretty good at taking pics of people in general (my friend had a photostudio and was trainining me by letting me take pics of my girls for free)and inanimate objects but when it comes to fireworks and things like the MSEP they come out blurry or out of focus.

Thanks a million! I was just reading the forum about taking pictures during fireworks and the use of a tripod and now am on the hunt for a medium size tripod that's within a sensable price range
