Question below,
I’m sailing on a cruise that has one daytime port and two evening port stops scheduled. It was a FREE cruise, not on Disney. So far has cost me $1700. in Taxes, Port Fees, and Gratuity. Okay I’m not happy about that, but I was roped in slowly. I’m never doing this again. It’s a private charter and given as a reward for purchasing $5000 worth of jewelry from Effy. There are so many things to be displeased about I need blinders just to get through all the jaw dropping issues everyone is having for this cruise. I honestly expect lawsuits will come from this cruise.
Okay here is the question.
Does anyone know if evening port times are less expensive than daytime port visits?
Itinerary:
San Juan Puerto Rico 430 to 9 P.m.
La Romana Dominican Republic 930 to 5 PM
Grand Bahama Island 5 to 10 PM
I have no clue on how much an average port fee is. I have no clue if daytime port fees are more expensive than evening port fees. I would imagine the amount of hours once stays in port would have a different cost as well, but I have no clue nor do I have any idea how to even ask about this information.
But you guys are the most amazing cruise information link I have available to me.
I’m gonna make the best out of this trip although I do want my eyes wide open during it.
Here’s a little afterthought question. Our port fee is the same whether you are able to pull into the port or miss the port for weather or other reasons?

Have you googled port fees in those specific ports?
Kind of??? I’m LD so probably not asking with the right questions.

Port fees in Puerto Rico, particularly in San Juan, vary based on whether you are shipping cargo or cruising.
Cargo arrivals face harbor maintenance fees (0.125% of value), terminal handling charges ($20-$30+ per w/m), document fees ($85), and a 11.5% excise tax on goods. Vehicle imports incur roughly 4% excise tax based on value.
Cruise Passenger Port Fees:
  • Port fees and taxes can range from 10-20% of the base cruise fare, sometimes up to half, depending on the itinerary.

If the port is missed completely you should be refunded any fees or taxes associated with that stop.

I’m not sure cruise passenger port fees are based on length of stop, though I believe the ship/cruise line is charged a berthing fee which may be time dependent.

All I know is that port fees in those places tend to be cheap. High in Alaska for example. Kind of a pita but you could go through the motions of booking some other cruises with similar ports and see what those port fees are.

So far has cost me $1700. in Taxes, Port Fees, and Gratuity.

Based on a Google search, port fees appear to be roughly:
San Juan $15
La Romana (I'm not finding good details but say $30)
Grand Bahamas $32
you don't mention the embark/debark port(s) but there may also be fees involved

So that's $75 per person for the 3 ports but doesn't include embark/debark; if you double that to allow for the extra it's maybe $150 per person
By comparison, DCL charges ~$325 for 2 people with 4 port stops on a 7-night southern caribbean itinerary (which breaks down to $162.50 per person)

For a 7-night cruise on DCL, gratuities would be $112 per person; some cruiselines may be closer to $150 per person per day

So using DCL, that's approx. $275 per person. If you have 4 passengers that would be $1100. So your $1700 sounds high, but it's possible the gratuities are understated in my example.

Can you ask for a break-down of that $1700? They should be obligated to let you know how much is port fees, how much is gratuity, etc.
