Nicknames...inspired by legally chaning your name

Maybe a little OT but I just saw where composer Elmer Bernstein has passed away.

Why is there a lack of Elmers in the world?

Perhaps, there isn't enough glue to have them stick around.....

sorry, couldn't resist.

Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with nicknames in general. I actually like nicknames, but Abbey is not my daughter's nickname. It bugs me that just because she is Abigail that people automatically assume Abbey is the nickname. I just feel that if someone asks what her name is and I say Abigail they should then call her that. I know I will go through this for the rest of her life, but I don't feel that I need to give in to a name that I didn't name her just cause someone feels they want to shorten her name, but again I regress!!:upsidedow

My youngest is named Julian, and when he was little I started calling him my JuJuBe and it stuck. I call him that 80% of the time. :teeth: He also is called JuJu or Ju alot, too.

My name is Sherry and I get called Sher all the time. I don't mind at all. :) I occasionally get called SherSher, too, and when I was a baby, my uncle called me SherSherBaby. :)

These are so fun to read - all the transformations; how some people like one nickname, but hate another; etc.

I'm Karen but when I was young I went by K.C. (just like someone on page 1). My husband calls me "Chickie" or "Chick" - a shortening of my maiden name. In fact, my mom always called my dad "Chick."

My mom, Patricia, went by Pat most of her life. Just five years ago, when my parents decided to finally move from the neighborhood they grew up in, she decided to reinvent herself and introduced herself to all their new friends and neighbors as Trish. I thought that was cute.

My DD, Cheyenne, came home from school last year with the name "Chey-Chey." I'll be anxious to see if that sticks throughout grade school.

Other DD, Savannah, knew her name to be "Banana" before she ever knew her real name. Mostly just DH and I call her that, but everyone knows who we're talking about when we say that. We have heard one or two people call her Vanna - I'm not crazy about that, but what can you do?
