I'd love to hear your nicknames, or your kid's nicknames, family members, friends, etc.....I love nicknames and am trying to come up with something cool for the baby.

If you have one, how did you get it (if you can tell the story LOL!)?

My nickname as a baby was given to me when I started crawling - it was Putsa Lutsa.

My nickname as an older child was Nae. My baby brother couldn't say Denae, until he started calling me Duh-Nae.

My nickname in high school was Broccoli or Scary-Broccoli. My maiden name has three syllables and ends in "brock." My kids call their grandmother broccoli.

My nickname as an adult is Dini because my friend's two year old couldn't say Denae. Diney is also my aunt Nadine's nickname. My aunt Loreen's name is Dolly.

DH Keith does not have a nickname.

Hannah's nickname is Banana-Girl, Nanner, or Tiny Child (she was a premie).

Emily has several nicknames. Her older sister called her Sissy when she was little. We call her Emmy, Em, Emi-Goo, Goo or Gooberry.

Edited to add: my brother Tom was Tom-a-lama. My mom was MEZ (her initials), and my dad was Chick - I have no idea why.

Most nicknames of people I know were developed once people got to know them!

Denae

Right now in life I'm not one of the ones given a nickname. (Have you ever noticed that there are "nickname" personalities - those that have 5 or 6 nicknames - and those those don't seem to have any?)

My nickname in high school was "Stretch" because I was the first baseman on our softball team and could do the splits to catch a ball. One of my guy friends saw me do it and yelled, "Good job, Stretch" and it stuck. My license plate in high school had that name on it. That's all though and as soon as high was over, the nickname was too.

My mom's nickname, however, has become so popular that it is her name. Her name is Christy. She's quite petite - only 4'11" - and her oldest brother called her Chricket one day (yes, a different spelling as the popular bug) and it completely stuck. Three moves around the country later and she is still Chricket - or even Chrick now to many. We don't even think about it much until someone "new" hears it and they usually end up calling her that too. My dad is a preacher and the few times I've heard him have to really try to call her Christy it's actually quite weird for me to hear - she's always been "Chrick" to him. You'll never guess who her absolute favorite Disney character is!!

My hubby's joke nickname is Plumber - for obvious reasons!

Nothing very original...

My name is Melinda. My friends call me Mel, my family calls me Min. My sister and brother sometimes call me Plink (no idea where that came from! lol). My other sister calls me Da (sounds like 'duh.') My dbf calls me Linlin.

My daughter is Morgan. She gets called Mo or MoMo.

My husband calls me "Little"....he's 6'2", I'm 4'11".
He calls me that more than anything so it seems funny when he calls me by my real name.

A boy in my HS was named Morgan. and he would always say "Big M, little organ"

;)

as for my nickname...well, let's put it this way. If you were to walk into my house and yell "Stinky!" My Dh, myself, AND the dog would respond. It's one of those 'universal nicknames' in our home.

Me:

Edge-first part of my last name
Mo-my email addy comes from a B-52's song and friends at old job just started calling me Mo.
Bo-no clue where this comes from, Aunt gave it to me before I even can remember.

DS23:

Rooster-he was born with red hair and had a double cow lick which made his hair stand up, straight in the middle (like a mohawk). My Aunt said he looked like a rooster, it stuck.

DS10:

I think every member of my family has a nickname for him.

Atticus-which is one of his middle names, but the Aunts in Tenn. call him that.
G.O.-for his initals
G-Man-most my friends and my Mom calls him this.

He has several goofy family ones, but too many to list, plus if he every found out I posted those,he wouldn't be happy.

Just like a DS22:

T.K. or Tiki-no clue
Shelly-his name is Sheldon.
Fluffy-can't tell you why DS10 calls him this, and he can't figure out where he came up with it either.

My Dad in High School was called Speedy, his best friend gave him the name being a smart aleck because he was so SLOW in football.

We have a bunch of nicknames in our family. I have been called:

Chuck: My sister's boyfriend started calling me that. Just sort of stuck. I wouldn't recommend this one. This is the honest to God truth... One day I was sitting in my mom's seat and she says to me; "UP CHUCK!"

Kellybelly-bowl full of jelly: My brother started that one.

Kelzer: nickname at work.

sweetpea: my mom used to call me that when I was little.

DD is called bug. It's short for Alli-bug.

DS is called little bear. As a baby he sounded just like a baby bear when he cried.

We used to call my niece little bit as a baby. She was and still is very very tiny. She has another one too. Miss fancy pants. It's because she always has to dress up. She is all girl.

My other niece is called Sharrie Shoes. Hence the name Sharrie and she loves shoes.

My mom has a strange one. When she was a baby they used to call her Fenda Penda. Why I don't know, but now everybody calls her Fen.

My sister's nickname is chick. Our dad gave her that name. I have no idea why.

My moms best friends nickname is Mickey. I'm not sure why though.

My best friend's name is Louise. That poor girl was called so many names (not by me though):

duh-weeze, the weeze, squeeze, weezie, weezer, etc. :sad2:

When I was younger I used to babysit a little girl with the name Felicia Night N' Gail. It was her real name though. It's even on her birth certificate. Her father gave her that name. When he used to tuck her sister's into bed at night he used to tell them stories about Felicia Night N' Gail. So, by the time she came along they liked it so much that they gave her that name. Funny thing is that they used to call her Felicia Lou a lot. :confused3

Edited to add another nickname of DD's. When she was a baby she looked exactly like her father. One day I was joking around with my mil about it and I said yup she's Mattalina. My mother-in-law got such a kick out of it that she would call her that from time to time. She was in the store with her (dd) one day and somebody asked her who the baby was. She said, "Oh, that's Mattalina, my granddaughter. They really thought that her name was Mattalina. They actually liked the name! MIL finally came clean and told them her real name was Allison.

my nickname is t-bone. seriously.

and no, i am not telling the story!

My nickname is Manna. There are two stories about how it came about.
#1 - supposedly my Grandpa dubbed me "Manna from Heaven." My parents thought they would/could not have any more children before I showed up. Surprise!
#2 - my only brother, who is 11 years my senior, thought my "real" name was too long for such a small (5 lb) baby. My name "Marianna" became shortened to "Manna." :)

I pretty much go my nickname exclusively now, except for in school/professional settings where I have to use my given name.

I have lots of revolving nicknames for my kids - Most commonly I find myself calling my DS-4 "Bo" (his name is actually Micah, so I'm not sure where that came from). I also call them sugar bear, bubba and other silly names.

My grandpa also nicknamed each of his grandchildren -
My niece, now age 14 - Fuzz (because she was nearly 3 before she had any hair to speak of!)
My nephew, age 8 - Poison (pronounced Pie-zahn). Don't know where he came up with the rest of these.
My nephew, age 5 - Dooba
My son, age 7 - Skeeter Bug
My son, age 4 - Bubba

ok..i have about 50

dunph (or dunF<written this exact way) thanks to my last name...but all 80 trillion of my uncles, aunts, cousins, and various other people i only see on holidays are call dunph. My Best Friend found out and decided that i needed some spice...so she did all lowercase untill the ph (F sound) and made it big...so its now just this random letter.

yankee-i am a huge yankee fan its quite sad

belle-its my number one goal in life to be belle...hopefully on broadway..if not..a cartoon voice is acceptable.

La Belle/ Cécile-my french teacher calls me there La belle is of course the first half of beauty and the beast (La belle et le bête) and Cécile is just a random name that he picked for me

7-im a secret agent...and yeah....well no not really, but is the number cousin i am..so i usually end up 'dunph 7'

so thats it...aside from various ones that stay inside jokes.

Well when I was born I was suppose to be a boy and be named after my dad, Dominick! ;) They named me Dominique instead and almost never called me by that name! My nick name is Nikki and I have no idea why or how!!LOL. It has just always been and the only people that ever called me by my real name were my teachers in school! I never liked the name Dominique so I always use Nikki.

My husband and son are named Robert and I call DS Bobby, like my MIL calls my DH!

DD is named Destiny and she has no nick name. Although sometimes I call her Dezi.

We love coming up with nicknames for each other but it's mostly for our girls and dogs!

My younger DD is Julia.
I love calling her Jewels
JuJu (when she calls me ma ma, I say "what JuJu?"?
JuJu Bean
Jewelyee

Our dogs:

Marty: Mourty or Bratty, or brat king
Reba: Beba, Beebs, Amiba, Viva Las Vegas, Arriba! Arriba! Ándale! Ándale!, old lady
Patsy: princess, Patsypooh and DH calls her Porky Patsy.
Randy: moose head
Travis (he has one eye): also sometimes moose head, one-eyed Jack, Popeye, hunk of burning love, propeller butt (his tail wags so fast) and lastly, Hopalong (cause he hops when he walks when he's excited).

I know we're weird.

My nickname is Braids.
My frosh year of highschool at band camp, I wore my hair in two pigtail french braids almost everyday, since it was easy and didn't get in my way when i was spinning my flag. So a few of the guardies started calling me 'Braids' and by the end of the week, the name had stuck. But that was almost four years ago, and hardly anyone calls me that anymore... only my best friends do, and its only to annoy me. lol

but my friends nicknames are Curley (for obvious reasons... her hair is extremely curly. lol), Crosser (honesty I don't even remember why...), Bambi (she loved the movie), and Swata (her name is Sweta, and someone accidentally said Swata one time, and it stuck).

At home: Sam. My mom wanted to name me Samantha, my dad said no. Too many variations of Chris among friends growing up, so I learned to answer to Sam.

At work: my last name. Continuing the trend of too many Chris's, there are 3 Christine's.

My son's name is Anderson, but he was such a big baby, everyone called him "Big Bud". Big Bud has stuck with him and EVERYONE calls him that! It's funny, because when we meet new people, they always think we're saying "Big Butt".

My siblings and I were seriously demented whilst growing up! We have a multitude of nicknames...some of them are in Chinese.

Myself: dad called me K.D. (my initials) or sweetcakes. Brothers called me "gah-lei-gai" which is chinese for curry chicken. It was a take off on my chinese name, which is "gah-lei"

My sis: Alley, Al, Oily (take-off on her chinese name Ngoi-Lei)

Oldest Bro: Bird man, simply because birds use him for target practice. Also Kennefoo.

Middle Bro: Root man (long story), little dictator (he is good at giving orders)

Youngest Bro: Aldi, Blue eyes, Potty mouth, Al-dum.

My kiddos have simple nicknames:

my son is "Tre'" because he is the III, we also call him "Choo-Choo Tre'"

My daughter is "little Rhandi Foo-Foo" or "Foo" for short.

DH doesn't have a nickname.

I love nicknames, they are so fun!

I was Sweet Pea in grade school, because I was just so sweet.

DD1: Boo Boo, dh started calling her that. Her sis calls her sissy

DD2: Doo Doo or doodlebug. Her big sister called her cubby, she had a teacher named Ms. Cub that she really liked.
