Some background:

We're going to be heading down to WDW in Jan '08 (yes, I know I'm asking far in advance, what can I tell you..compulsive planning disorder!) for our first trip "home" to AKV. We've booked AKV from the 5th to the 11th but I've actually worked this out so we're leaving home (to drive) on the 3rd. Originally, we were going to make a stop overnight somewhere along the road, but I've now decided to leave a bit later and just drive it straight through while the kids sleep.

To that end, we're going to arrive in Orlando sometime on the 4th and my wife and I have decided to surprise the kids with a night at the Nick hotel (my daughter saw it on our last trip and STILL talks about just SEEING it!). So, now we actually get down to the question:

Anyone done the character breakfasts? I've looked on the web site and they say reservations are required. Anyone know how far in advance you can make ressies AND does anyone know what the "rotation" is of the breakfasts. I see Dora (which is what we're hoping for), Spongebob, and BC breakfasts listed. I'm assuming they rotate.....so which occurs on which day of the week?

ANY info on the hotel and character breakfasts would also be greatly appreciated!

We went in 2005. Dora visited tables throughout the breakfast. The Fairly Odd Parents also went around during breakfast. Sponge Bob and Patrick were set up in a corner of the room. There was a line up for them because they are too big to walk between the tables.

We also have reservations for Tuesday! My son will be celebrating his birthday that day. Maybe we'll see you there!

I think it was the novelty of the Nick Characters, after so many Disney character meals, but it was just "okay." The food wasn't amazing, it was passable but overpriced as you'd expect. I do know that you can't make a reservation for the character breakfast if you're not staying onsite at Nick Hotel. Nick Hotel will definitely be sensory overload after AKV! We did one night, and that was enough. The upside is that the kids are so enchanted with the theme pool area that they don't mind not going to the parks or anywhere else. In that way, Nick Hotel is a nice wind down to a vacation.
Also, in January I doubt you'd have trouble with a dining reservation. That's a really slow time for them.
Enjoy!

We did the character breakfast in Aug 2006. We made our reservations for the breakfast the night before. SpongeBob was over in the corner, you had to wait in line to see him, the other characters moved around the dining area, danced and sang a bit. We saw Blue, Dora, Fairly Odd Parents (the guy), and a couple others I can't recall. It was fun.
As for the food, I agree with randbmom, it was ok, not worth the money for sure. But the kids had a good time, and we got some good pictures. Noone really cares about the food, do they? ;-)

BTW, the characters do each come out during the day in the food court area, so if you decide not to do the breakfast, you may get to see a few characters while hanging out in the food court area/arcade area. But if you want to be sure to see as many characters as you can in a day, I'd go for the breakfast.

Hope you have a great time!

BEFORE AKV, actually. :) This is going to be a "decompress" day for the kids after riding in the car for 18 or so hours (much of it overnight, but still) so we booked it largely because it's so "manic". We want them to have some time to run, stretch their legs, and (depending on the weather in January) get some time in the water, before starting the "Disney portion" of the vacation the next day.

Our kids are Dora and Blue addicts and that's why we're doing the breakfast, so "passable" overpriced food is pretty much OK with us.

Thanks for the info!

Thanks for the info! That's exactly some of the stuff we wanted to know!

I actually just got home last night from the Nick Hotel. The character breakfasts weregood as my son loved it. We had Dora, Spongebob, Little Bill, Squidward,& Blue. But they told us that Spongebob & Dora are there everyday and the other characters rotate each day. Sunday had Cosmo & Wanda. When you check in go right away to get the reservations as they fill up quick.
