We already have a week booked at a nice timeshare resort through skyauction for our upcoming Orlando holiday, but I came across (on Hotwire) a discounted rate for the Nick Hotel. It is $89 per night plus the $20 resort fee plus taxes for a one bedroom unit.

plan #1:
I am thinking of perhaps spending one night there during our week in orlando but :
1) DH thinks it is ridiculous since we already have somewhere nice to stay
2) I have read many negative reviews about this resort on Tripadvisor.

plan #2:
I was thinking about doing something really crazy:
Perhaps booking two nights at $89 and then getting a third night free (they have a special promotion if you stay on your birthday the third night is free). I didn't even run this one by DH since he thinks the one night idea is no good.

Any thoughts on the Nick Hotel or my proposed plans would be really appreciated.

Just when you think you have your holidays plans set 100%, something new comes along.............

we've stayed there six or seven times, but only do it with a discounted resident rate. the people that pay $350.00 a night are the ones that freak out. I'd have no problem paying about $150.00 a night.

Just Curious-
How do you know that it is Nick Hotel? I thought that Hotwire didn't post the names of the hotels???

There is no way on God's green earth I would pay full-price to stay at the Nick Hotel. The only reason we are staying there for our upcoming trip is because we are doing so on or Priority Club points. There are too many other sweeter suites to be had in the immediate WDW vicinity to bother with a $350/night themed suites hotel, IMO.

However, for $110/night, it seems to be a pretty decent place.

This place goes on sale from time to time---this is not the only time you can get a good rate. You've already got your lodging for this trip, no reason to upset the apple cart.

If you will get a lot of use out of the pool during your stay then I would book it. Otherwise, I would stay where you are.

We'll be doing this offer, but only for 1 night just in case we're not thrilled with it.

The kids begged to stay there 2 years ago, when we were staying at the World Center Marriott across the street. Then DD watched a video podcast all about the hotel and got even more jacked up to stay there. The final straw was coming across this offer, so I guess we'll give in and give it a try.

The reviews make me nervous as well, but I'm sure the kids will love it. We're even planning on making this a non-park day so they can stay in the pool the whole time if they want.

Can the third-night-free-on-your-birthday offer be combined with the $89/night offer? If so, that is a great deal! But that's a long time to stay there if you wind up being unhappy with it...

I called the hotel and I can't combine the offers. My only concern is that we really have only one free day while in Orlando and it can used for either a day at Blizzard Beach or at the Nick Hotel.

Being that it will be December, we can pick the best day of the week and go to Blizzard Beach. If we choose to go to the Nick Hotel we will have to pick a day and book it now and hope for the weather to co operate .

Does anyone know the dates available for this offer? We will be staying there Jan 18-23 for a convention and I would love to drop our rate.

Thanks!

Stayed there, hated it, hope you stay with your original resort. PS: We went in December in 2004 and had 40 degree weather, yikes. Kids still wanted to go swimming tho. If you do go, stay away from their restaurant, unless BIG changes were made it was gross. If you have kids loving Dora etc. one night might be nice but its really cramped and I wasn't impressed at all. Kids liked the pool tho.

Well tonights the last night to book at the $89 rate, so I went ahead and did it. I think for this price one night should be ok.

We are still staying at the Wyndham Cypress Palm for the week (got a fabulous rate through skyauction) so will simply pack an overnight bag and go over to Nick Hotel for the one night. I will check the weather before we go (can cancel 72 hours prior to check-in) and will cancel if it looks like it will be too cool.

Can anyone tell me about the evening shows that start at 5? Are we allowed to go to more then just one.

Any info. on the shows would really be appreciated.

Thank you

Hotwire offer ends tonight and is good for stays up until Dec 24 I think.

I stayed at the Nick hotel just recently for my nephews birthday. We had a great time and I think you made the right decision, especially for the price you got. I wouldn't worry about the pool either because they are heated. So if you do run into some cold weather you will actually probably be better off at the hotel.

We went to the show that you are referring to and it was a good time. The kids got really into it and it is free which is great! Just make sure to book your reservation as soon as you get there because the spots go quick. When we were there a lot of people were waiting outside to try and get in without tickets. The evening shows are alll the same so you won't want to book more than one but there are other things to do that evening, including family karoke after the last show of the night.

You may also want to look into some of the other speciality events. We did the Club Slime on our last day and it was my nephews favorite part by far. Very hands on activities with a nightclub theme for kids. They also have other activities for younger kids, a Spongebob event and a Dora event. They cost extra but are well worth the money considering you're saving on a theme park ticket.

There's a lot to do at the hotel itself so if you're staying for just one night I would plan on needing at least one full day to do it all. Kids will want to go to the pools, shows, events, arcade, spa, restaurant, and workshop (they do arts and crafts here, we tie-dyed a shirt).

Have a great trip and go into it knowing that it will be a day totally devoted to the kids having a great time. The staff was all excellent and really got everyone into it all.

Thank you for the information. I really appreciate it.

Can you tell me what the evening show is all about? When I made the reservation, I was told that there are shows from 5 until 10 pm? Is it the same show repeated? That would be great since we would have a better chance of getting tickets for one of the time slots?

Thank you

Our kids will be 7 and 10 at trip time and are not into Blue or Dora. Any suggestions on things that they would be interested in?

The evening show is set up like a game show. Two families compete and the audiance is split up, half the audiance for each team. From what I remember it seems like your family would be the perfect age to compete so when you check in find out how to register. I think you fill out a card and then the day off they choose the competing familes. The families do stunts and they pull people from the audiance to help out. At the end one team wins and the winning teams youngest child gets to be slimed. The losing teams kid can either take a pie in the face or pie one of their parents. It was a lot of fun and lasted about 30-45 minutes. Those shows are all the same. Also, after the last showing of the night they have family karoake. We didn't attend this but I think it's in the same room. I do remember them saying to get there early if your family wanted to sign up to sing.

They have a spongebob event called "spongebobs bikini bottom bash" we were going to do that with the 8 year old but got into town too late and had to cancel. From what I read though, it was an event where they met spongebob, took photos, played games, got prizes, tatoos, things like that. Because we missed that, they transferred what we had payed to the Club Slime event. This would probably be your best bet as both your 7 yr old and 10 yr old would enjoy it. They had a snack station where the kids could drink slimeade, a place to spray"green slime" into your hair, an area where you could touch the slime and get a sample to eat, and a photo area. They let the kids go up on stage, four at a time to put together a "slime" puzzle. Each kid got cards with tokens for the arcade based on what place they came in. They also taugh everyone the "slime Slide" and had 10 minutes or so where all the kids where dancing. They also gave out free glow in the dark shirts and bottles of slime to the kids when they left. It was an absolute blast and our favorite part of the stay.

Depending on how you feel when you get there, you can also sign the kids up for a Nick After Dark event. It is a little bit more expensive than the other events but that's becaus you drop the kids off for most of the night. It allows you and your husband to leave the property and have some you time. They entertain the kids the entire time and while we didn't do it we talked to people who did and the kids loved it. It's probably well worth it if you'll be in town for several days and want a night out for you and your husband.

Thanks so much for the detailed info. It sounds like a fun resort.

Do you remember how much the Club Slime activity or the Sponge Bob party cost for kids and adults??? And for these would we book before check-in or that day?

Thanks

For those of you who have recently been to the hotel, do they provide coffee packets for the in room coffee pots and if not is there a place on the property to just get a morning cup of coffee without the whole breakfast buffett thing? Thanks
