Funny - but its always that way --

I live in NYC and only go into Manhattan and do touristy things when people come to visit

All of these things sound like fun, I've lived in the area all my life and havent done half of them LOL

LOL! I just had my niece here for 10 days and that's the first time I've ever been to the Empire State Building and Statue of Liberty in the 12 years I've lived here.

We just spent one night and one day there at the end of May. We stayed at the Embassy Suites Fallsview, which ran $156 for floors 10-15 (although we got a FREE upgrade at the last minute to a presidential suite on the 20th floor). It included a free hot breakfast buffet.

Normally we don't spend that much for a hotel. But since the falls is about all we wanted to see while we were there, it made sense to get the "most of it" we could. Lol.

We did Maid of the Mist in the afternoon and the 'Oh Canada Eh' dinner show the night we were there. We were a party of 2 adults & 2 kids, so the kids got in free (the deal is on their website).

For such a short time we were in town, we really enjoyed it!

Do you need a passport to walk over the bridge to the Canada side?

I was thinking of visiting NF in August with the family. We don't have passports. Can you get into Canada with a Passport Card?

We were thinking of driving from MA. I went to NF 21 years ago and things were a lot different then. My DH and kids have never been.

Me too LOL, lived here all my life and finally did the maid of the mist and cave of the winds 5 yrs ago!!!! Go figure I also wanted to say that you can get across the bridge with an enhanced drivers license also but I think maybe that's only if you live in nys???? dunno, I luv walking over there every summer but haven't since they started this new law and I haven't gotten an enhanced license yet, makes me mad I can't get across

I'm not a Buffalo native, but I have been living in the Buffalo/Niagara area for about 2 years now and I love it! I didn't see anyone mention Marineland in Canada, but that is definitely one of my favorite places to go. You can feed and pet beluga whales, go on rides, and see all kinds of animals. It's really a lot of fun. Also, on the American side there is the Niagara Aquarium which I have heard is really nice. Also over there, if you want to do some shopping, are the Niagara Falls Oulets.

For food on the American side, if you have a car, I would go down to elmwood village in Buffalo. Blue Monk on elmwood is one of my favorite restaurants of all time. It's Belgian style and they have tons of interesting beers on tap. Another good restaurant on elmwood is Cole's. Basic American food and tons of cool brews also. If you're looking for something a little nicer or just for fun dessert there's Chocolate Bar on Chippewa street. It's really delish. And Thr Elmwood area is really just nice for hanging out. There's two art galleries I think on Elmwood as well as shopping.

Let me know if you have any questions. I live maybe 15 minutes from the Falls and I think the American side has a lot to offer if you know where to look.

Ps. If you do have a car, there is a drive in movie theater maybe 20 minutes from the mall. It's around 8 bucks per person for a double feature!

Agree with it all, except the Aquarium.

The aquarium is horrible! Don't waste your money. I was hesitant when I saw the sign at the entrance that said no money would be refunded! Dark, dirty, small and nothing much to look at.

Thinking of driving the distance to go to the Hockey Hall of Fame too... (DH's idea)

i live about 20 minutes from the falls.
there is parking near the falls but it is fairly expensive...your best bet is to pick a fairly central parking lot
(there are a couple on clifton hill) and walk as much as possible
oh canada eh! is a great show
marineland is lots of fun for the kids...in fact we are taking our girls this weekend!

it is about an hour and a half from Niagara falls to Toronto (hockey hall of fame)
if you make that drive i suggest you make it a "toronto day" and check out the city

Oh lord don't bother with the aquarium. It might satisfy tiny kids but it's really pretty awful.

We loved Oh Canada Eh! It was a good, fun show and the food was plentiful and quite good. Even my *cool* teenagers liked it

In Toronto I get thrill out of visting CN tower( offer a aaa discount), and the skydome Hard Rock. I liked Mall to but I don't recall what it was called. As for hotels I have always stayed at skyline Inn. It is close to clfton Hill and not bad walk to fdalls IMO.

MIchigan offers Enhanced DL and they can cross via land with it. My dad has one.

We love the Transit Drive-In! So grateful there's still a drive-in movie around us, it's a great time to spend a summer night, we used to go all the time as a kid when there were about 4 around to choose from and you can't beat $8 for a double feature!

I agree! We had one by me growing up, but it was torn down years ago. It's a dying thing.

Also, autocorrect changed "falls" to "mall" on that post so to clarify the drive-in is 20 minutes or so from the falls.

The mall in Toronto is the Eaton Centre, its right on Yonge St. Oh I love that place, I swear they have everything there!

The coaster is AWESOME, its like a 3.5 minute ride, lots of loops, I remember as a kid riding it nonstop lol.
