Hello, has anyone heard when Nexus offices will reopen? I was hoping with the border opening in a few weeks, they would also open. We started my kids Nexus renewal 17 months ago. Had 2 appointments rescheduled, then cancelled when the offices closed. We forgot to start the renewal process for my husband before his expired. All 3 are waiting for an interview.

I'm in the same boat as you. We applied in around October of 2019. My husband was conditionally approved pretty quickly (I think because he has a redress number) but he wanted to wait to go to with interview with me. I wasn't approved until around 6 or 7 months later. We booked appointments for October of 2020 and of course everything shut back down then and the NEXUS office hasn't opened back up since. I don't really see why they still need to be closed at this point! Hopefully we will hear something soon, but we leave in a week, so we will be out of luck for this trip, and our next planned vacation is the UK so that does us no good as well.

I’m also in the same boat. We’re new applicants for Nexus and have been waiting for the border offices to open up to schedule an interview. The last advisory on the website says that the offices will remain closed while land borders are restricted. Not sure if that means they will reopen on Nov 8th?

Here’s another option I stumbled across while looking for information:
https://www.cbp.gov/travel/trusted-traveler-programs/global-entry/enrollment-arrival
Looks like if you have conditional approval for an application, you may be able to interview at an office ad your airport of arrival. If we can’t schedule an interview before we leave on Nov 30, we may try this!

Pretty sure that is just Global Entry (the US part).

Hmmm, does Global Entry not include Nexus? This part confuses me as we are technically included as international travellers.

No, it does not. NEXUS includes Global Entry (I think, technically, NEXUS can be used at Global Entry entry points); however, Global Entry does not give access to NEXUS entry points. For NEXUS, you have to do your interview at a location with both Canadian and US agents (I think at Niagara Falls they are actually separate - you do one and then walk across the border to do the other, but most have both agents sitting together). That list includes US airports where there would be no Canadian agent.

Wording from Global Entry site:

https://www.cbp.gov/travel/trusted-traveler-programs/global-entry/eligibility#

Canadian citizens and residents are eligible for Global Entry benefits through membership in the NEXUS program.

I’m also waiting. We were pre-approved in March 2020. I keep checking every day. Once the US announced it was reopening the border, Fort Erie had appointments that were booking up very quickly, At first there were some for November and as I kept checking throughout the day the dates for pushed out as far out as February. It’s too far for us to go for an interview but thought it was a good sign. Now Fort Erie is also showing as unavailable. Anyway - I think appointments will go very quick when they do open so we need to be fast !

Once they open, keep a look out for cancellations. I don't remember the specifics (I got mine something like eight years ago), I know that I get in (at Pearson) months earlier than I originally booked because I checked for cancellations.

Thanks for the reminder! I just checked on our applications and all 3 of us have conditional approval...now I just need the offices to open up and to get all of us over to Vancouver for the interviews!

my wife and i just renewed out nexus card on line and they mailed us a new one, it took less then 2 weeks to get. they used the same picture they have on file for us, can you not do this for your son as well.

so now both of ours expire 2026

Kids require a new photo. We’re waiting to renew all 3 of our kids as well.

Same here, my kids can now be fingerprinted, and they need a picture and interview. My husbands, we forgot was expiring, so we start all over, can't just renew.

I am impressed with how quickly your renewal took ! Mine took several months to approve, and then they too sent me the new card with the same photo on file.

...goes to check my status. Nope, not renewed lol. Its only been 13 days. Mine doesn't expire until April 2022. I got the renewal in early when I saw there has been delays.

I got an email this morning indicating that US Nexus centres would be opening the 28th (not the Canadian centres). No apts available in Detroit as yet, and it seems you still have to have a PCR/NAT to re-enter Canada afterwards (sigh).

Update.....Nexus offices in the USA are reopening. It also looks like end of November/ early December we won't need a covid test to come back to Canada for short trips. Therefore I can book my kids interviews for early 2022 in Blaine
