We are currently with ATT due to them buying out U.S. Cellular in our area in s.e. georgia. We are not thrilled with the customer service we are getting. Everymonth my account rep (business account) has to get a copy of my ENTIRE 20 page bill and go thru it to reduce it back to the correct amount due then by the next month we still have'nt seen corrections on our bill for the prior months. I'm just getting fed up with it. We own a towing service and having the benefits of nextels touch to talk are something i'm interested in. We don't have a nextel in our area though the closest one is 40 miles away cross the florida line. I am wondering though if i would be better off to go with them anyways. Hows the service and how do you like the touch to talk? We do have an alltel that would be essentialy the same meaning they provide touch to talk but i like the feature nextel lets you rec'v free incoming calls from ANYONE from any phone not to mention free mobile to mobile like alltel. Thanks

Look into some of the other carriers before you go with Nextel. Several are offering the "walkie talkie" features now, and you might not have to pay the huge monthly bill associated with Nextel!

Good luck!

P.S. I believe that Sprint and Verizon may offer these features now!

We've got no complaints so far. We've tried other companies (Verizon, Sprint) but always went back to Nextel because there receptions, cover area is by far the best. My DH works in Boston in a concrete building and those other 2 companies did not work in his building but Nextel did. So we're sticking with Nextel now.

It also worked great at WDW!

DH and I have Nextel. He is in construction, and needs it for work. I have to say, reception is pretty good, with the exception of inside Pecos Bill's Cafe! We use direct connect constantly to talk to each other, much better than calling. Free incoming calls is a big plus. He has nationwide direct connect on his, because we also talk to some of his family members, former coworkers, and friends back in IL on his. I don't use mine very much, so we skipped that option on my phone.
Overall, we are happy with Nextel, have used them for about six years.

My dh has a nextel for his job and its become a nightmare. Its so bad they had to issue pagers to everyone because the service is so bad. He also takes our cingular phone with him so he knows he will always have a working phone with him. They are waiting for someone to OK changing phone service so they can dump the nextel and get something that will work. They thought the walkie talkie feature would be great, which it would be if it only worked!!

I've been with Nextel for a while, and I have no problems. I generally get signal everywhere I've been (with the exception of within elevators and long tunnels, however, other phones lose signal in these areas too). Customer service has been great about correcting whatever (very few) problems found their way onto my bill.

The 2 way radio is a nice feature, albeit one that I don't use a lot, since none of my friends have Nextel. I used it some when I had my campus job, as some people in my department had a university-issued Nextel phone.

Other companies are offering a push to talk, but it's not really the same. I looked into the Verizon PTT option, and there's a 7-10 second delay on every connection. With Nextel, there's a 2 second (max) delay on the initial connection, and everything after that is instant, as if you were on a walkie-talkie, rather than a cell phone.

(I should also add that my monthly bill with Nextel is actually a dollar or two lower than it was when I had Verizon, and I've got all the same features (minutes, long distance, caller id, etc))

I have had nextel for 3 yrs. I love it. It works in places that others do not. I drive down to FL and mine worked everywhere but a VERY few REMOTE areas in IN and TN. I think (as far as I remember) it worked throughout GA.

It is a bonus for me, most of my friends have nextel so we just "push and talk" I do not have the free incoming plan because I make more out going than incoming and it is cheaper for me to have the Nextel National 1000 plan which is 1000 anytime min unlimited nights and weekends and unlimited direct connect (push to talk). I also use the express messaging service daily also, text messaging where you can send messages back and forth.

Another note most people don't like nextels because they think that every has to hear your direct connect conversation but you do not have to have it set up that way, there is a button you can push for it to go through the ear piece.

I say go w/ nextel. BTW a few people I know have tried Sprints push to talk and their other services and were not happy AT ALL. As far as Verizon, I used to have them before they had push to talk, and I was NOT happy with their Cust. Serv. or their coverage. Just thought I would let ya know.

DH has a Nextel from work. It is awful!! In fact I had to take his radio into the shop today because it is JUNK!! The shop was closed so he is going to have to wait until Monday. Half the time he cannot get a signal (and we live in a Detroit suburb!!) or the phone cuts out and dies. He suggested maybe when I am due for a new phone (thru Verizon) in September to look into a Nextel so we can 2way vs. phone call eachother. After dealing with his awful experience, he told me to keep Verizon and just get a new phone.

Sheblyjosh~ can I ask what model phone your DH has?? The some models seem to get better reception then others.

We've been with Nextel for several years now and have been very happy. We recently upgraded our phones to the i530's and they're great. We rarely have connection problems. We use Direct Connect often and we love this feature. If you're concerned about Customer Service problems, you may want to avoid Verizon. I worked for a company that used them and I had to call every month to make corrections on the bill (they only had 8 users) and the credits never came through. It was completely ridiculous.

His phone is an i550 plus. This is his 2nd one. I am so glad his work supplies these and pays the bill because I sure wouldn't pay for it!

This is the exact info i was hoping you guys would give me. I'm seriously thinking of nextel for service I'm just worried that since we don't have a local store and i would have to get it from 40 miles away that i might not get a good customer service person or a good deal not to mention the reception. Does anyone have a phone that they purchase there agreement on line? Or that you where not in the "coverage" area. My zip is 31501 and when i type in they say no covreage or store located. It is just the store you think should i get coverage? I mean you go all over and talk right so why would'nt i get coverage is what i'm thinking. Love to hear your opinons.

Nextel does have some areas where there isn't great coverage, because they may not have a tower nearby. I'd call their 800 number first, before you order, and see if they have towers near your location. If they don't have any towers, you're never going to get any signal when you're at home, and the phone would probably not be much use to you.
