Next Food Network Star

im so dissapointed aarti won. i though tom and herb were much better! aarti is just annoying with her "aah-ti paah-ti" ughhh :headache:

I'm disappointed but not surprised, too. She was the obvious winner for weeks. I taped it and fast forwarded it to the end so I can turn it off the minute I saw her face on the wall....:rolleyes1

I would've liked Tom OR Herb, just cannot take her or Indian food, but they couldn't make everyone happy! :goodvibes

Pretty funny. As a guy who watches A LOT of Food Network, I can say that they do make sure she is always showing her cleavage. However, I'm always more distracted by the fact that her head is GIGANTIC compared to her body. I was just watching Alice in Wonderland the other day, and I kept calling the Red Queen "Giada" because of her large head. :rotfl:

Yep, my DH calls her a bobblehead. He doesn't think she's attractive in the least because of the way she shows all her teeth when she smiles. He's not a cleavage guy si he's too bothered by her other weird characteristics to care about the cleavage.

I probably would watch Herb as well, just to get some "healthy" tips. But they already had an "eating healthy" show that didn't go very far (Ellie Krueger's show).

Ellie's show is still on. I enjoy it. :goodvibes

Soooooooooooooo disappointed. AGAIN. I couldn't even watch the After Party.

I'm happy Aarti won. Tom is nice, and maybe can cook well, but FN already has Guy and Aaron, both with the "big flavors." Enough already!

So it's time for something different.

I'm also glad to hear that I'm not the only one who doesn't like Giada or the Neelys! Can we add Sandra Lee to that list, too? Her "budget" show drives me crazy - "That's 83 PERCENT savings!" Can you say, "talking down to your audience"? And then all of her "table scapes" - yeah, I'm supposed to save money but have 34 different sets of dishes/tableclothes/napkins, etc. Please!

I love Giada and Sandra Lee. I really enjoy Sandra's money-saving show. Gives some incredible tips for saving money.

Ellie doesn't have an ounce of personality. I still feel that of the three, Herb is the most marketable.

See and Herb was just kinda so so for us. Isn't it funny how everyone sees everything differently? Sandra drives me bonkers the way she draaaaaaags ooooout heeeeer wooooords. Like "This is going to be sooooooo yummy" :headache:

UGH.. The Neeleys make me want to throw up in my mouth... all the gooey lovey kissy kissy just seems so fake to me.

I don't like Ina either... she's all about "I used to have a shop in the Hamptons" darlingish.. UGH... it always seems she is talking down to the "normal" folk.

I LOVE Ina! She's my favorite. I'm a regular American Joe and I've never felt like she was talking down to me just because she likes to use good products and lives in a nice place. She worked hard to get where she is. I think she and Jeffrey are adorable.

I TOTALLY agree with you on the Neely's though! They disgust me! They're all over each other, it's like Get a Room!!!

Ugh, can't stand hoity-toity Ina. And her voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me.

I'm glad Aarti won. I liked Herb also but I have no idea how far you can go with healthy Latin cooking. Tom is too spastic for my taste although I love Guy.

Just catching up with this thread (not having watched the finale until just now). Sooooo glad that Aarti won. She had it all. Tom and Herb were okay, but I see myself sticking with Aarti longer than I would with Tom or Herb.

I just the commercial for Aarti's show for the first time and I can't believe they didn't change the name from what she had come up with.

I would have watched Herb or Tom but there is no way I will watch Aarti! I don't like Indian spices, I don't like the flower in her hair and I don't like they way she talks and acts. There were only two people I did not want to win Dzintra, (or whatever her name was) and Aarti!! That makes two years in a row I did not like the person they chose! I won't watch Melissa either. In my opinion the food network is going downhill quickly with all their "contests". I just wish I had the cooking channel but DH won't pay the extra cost for that package.

Wow, besides the fact I have the Cooking Channel I could've written this!!! :worship::worship::worship: I actually would've watched Dzintra BEFORE Aarti. Her voice gives me the heebies.

:scared1: They actually kept "Aarti Paarti?" :rotfl:

I just watched the finale (it's sooooo hard to not open this thread before watching!) I wouldn't have been surprised to see any of the three win. I don't mind Aarti, I hated her self-doubt, but she doesn't grate on my nerves. I won't seek out her show, but if it happens to be on, I might leave it on for a bit.

I still like Brad :snooty:

I'm really glad. I thought the name was perfect, though they did change it to "Party" so it can be found more readily when searching. I can't wait to see her first episode.

Susie touched on this the other night (although I don't think she really directed it toward any particular contestant).. I think Aarti's show has the potential to be something that I will watch but won't ever make anything from. I don't dislike her... I just have no desire to eat Indian food. She seems like a really nice person, and I tend to gravitate toward that.

So... we'll see :) She wasn't my first choice, but now that it's done, I hope it works out well for her and TFN.

Remember also that being a Food Network star isn't just about being a television cooking instructor. It, like all manner of celebrity, for that matter, is about promulgating a persona that people value their interactions with (either in person or, more typically, remotely). With Aarti, they have a little bit of Rachel Ray's chumminess, and a little bit of Ming Tsai's exotic interest. They can present her on-screen, of course, and they will. But she's also a good writer - indeed "Aartipaarti" is the name of her blog, which is very popular, and has been for a while before she competed in NFNS. So she can connect with viewers through this new medium perhaps better than any of their previous personalities. And don't underestimate the demand that is out there for (what most purists would consider watered-down) Indian food-influenced products. There are a few brands of what some might consider mainstream packaged Indian foods, but I can imagine that sector blowing wide-open if a name like Food Network, trusted by folks who aren't already-inclined toward exotic food, gets into the action. This could be big in a way that Tom nor Herb could never be.

:surfweb: ugh...

Marketing wise I understand it, but ...UGH.

It's funny that you bring all that up, because it's precisely for that reason that I thought she WOULDN'T win! I saw Herb and even Tom as being more marketable. Probably because Indian food is not something I'm even remotely interested in (and neither are any of the people that I spend time with discussing and eating food.) Interesting how are perspectives are so different.

I'd still rather look at Herb

Gonna have to go check out her blog. Thanks for that.. never occured to me that the contestants might have them :)

I thought this all along. Aarti has all sorts of problems with her self-esteem, it seems. I just can't see her doing what Guy, Bobby Flay, Giada, Rachel, etc. do on a daily basis. Greeting fans, doing press shoots, it all seems like it would be very overwhelming for Aarti, and that was one of the reasons I thought they may have given the win to Tom or Herb.

Oh well, no sweat off my back, I still highly doubt Aarti will reach any of the lofty heights other Celebri-chefs are at.
