My Mom is in AZ called to say she heard on her Fox new station that Disney is loosing money and will close later this year?? :rotfl: :rotfl: Okay We all know disney is here to stay. After to picked my self up from laughing off my seat I asked her if she would believe them if they said the sky was falling? yes she said. LOL. I checked the foxnew website for kicks and didn't find anything on there- not like i was expecting to find it there.

Did anyone catch that news report??

Many times people only "half-hear" a report and fill in their own "facts."

I knew my fellow dis'ers would come thru. Yeah she 1/2 listens to the news. I called her and told her it was Hong Kong. She said all she heard was Disney and she didn't want it to ruin our vacation. That was so sweet of her.

thanks again. no need to fret that we just got more dvc points!:cool1:

Yes its Hong Kong Disneyland.
They went bankrupted

No need to jump the gun.

They have not gone bankrupt or closed the park.

The park has not performed well, for sure.

And now, there is a conflict between Disney and the government of Hong Kong on the funding of the park and possible expansion.

Doesn't look good, however.

Aw crud. We were planning on going there next spring break since we're stationed in Japan. Phooey

Why not go to TOKYO Disneyland?
It is IN Japan. (I'm thinking you must have been there, no?)

BTW, HK Disneyland is not yet closed.
It may go on for the foreseeable future, you never know.

Already been to Tokyo Disney and DisneySea. Japan being closer to HK than the states was the reason I wanted to go. We'd like to hit all the parks-including the Paris one if we can get stationed in Italy. I'm just hoping by the time we'd be able to go to HK it would still be opened and functioning.

WOW!I am so glad it is just Disney that is closing! That still leaves Epcot,Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom to visit!;) :)

If they do want to close Disneyland HK, they would certainly be welcome to move the entire thing to our beloved West Virginia. There's plenty of ground available (OK, mostly hills), it's close to most major East Coast Cities, AND (most important), our family could actually visit more than once per year.

for the record, i haven't seen anything suggesting that HKDL will or could close. of course anything is possible and it's often cited for being not all that productive, but consider the incidents over chinese new year where they had an invasion of guests all trying to get into the park, even passing kids over the fence.

the recent news regards the fact that Disney was planning on expanding HKDL (which is sort of the opposite of closing it) but decided after 2 years or so officially that the project wasn't going anywhere and that expansion plans were halted indefinitely. for its part, HK is very pro-Disney and does own a majority of the park. if anything, it's possible that HK could buy out Disney and just license the Disney franchise like TDL is done (Disney doesn't own TDL).

now conspiracy theorists can strategize that the recent HKDL news may have something to do with Disney's prospects in Shanghai. Set to be the largest Disneyland yet, Shanghai is almost destined for success if it goes through so it's probably not in the central government's best interest to have HKDL be babied in the short term.

From what I have been reading, it seems that the HK govt needs Disney more than the other way around. I highly doubt either entity would allow HKDL to close, and I agree with Brad that some sort of license deal would probably be the easiest way for Disney to save face and walk away, while allowing the govt to keep the park open. Of course all of this could have been avoided if they didnt build 1/3 of a park in the first place. This seems to be an issue with Disney when it comes to new parks, DCA, HKDL, Studios in Paris, all were opened with a skeleton offering, yet everyone seemed suprised when they garnered skeleton attendance...

Consider the source of the information. They (fox) has never been known to wait for a second source to ensure accuracy.
