Ticket price rise has a profound impact on box office ranking. The adjusted for inflation chart is VERY different. Avatar is not riding at the top. (14 isn't bad, though).

International box office is definitely huge. This is why studios are adding international elements into movies any chance they get. It's definitely why the 3rd act of this year's Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots movie took place in China.

This may be a good thing though. There are movies I'd love to have had sequels to that did just okay in the USA and gangbusters abroad. I'd be thrilled if studio math greenlit sequels for that reason.

The Star Wars additions that come to the parks will have a heavy influence from the new films especially episode 7 and 8. They will still incorporate the old movies but the new ones will be the focus. Don't expect to see any additions before 2020.

Find this hard to believe. I know WDW is slow and meticulous on development, but to wait 6 more years before any move to add in especially in DHS where they are already removing existing rides to make room for some of this development seems a bit much.

I would think some classic Star Wars attractions could be implemented sooner than 2020.....hopefully?

Well think disney hasn't announced anything yet nothing has been torn down etc. fantasyland took four years avatar will take 4 years. If they start in 2015 we are looking at that 2019-2020 range. Like I said the big reason for waiting is to incorporate the new movies. Iger thinks they will be huge successes so.

I think Star Wars is slightly different than Avatar in that in the case of Avatar they announced it before any design work was underway. Design work for Star Wars has already been on-going for at least 1.5 years. However, that said, I do agree that if it's a major overhaul and it starts sometime next year, I don't think you will see actual completion until 2018-2019 time-frame. And in thinking along those lines, they could very well want to work in the new trilogy to at least some of the park. ("This generations" Star Wars.)

What I really think will happen is some type of construction starts mid to late 2015 and it opens in phases with that last phase being in 2020 with the new trilogy. The first phase could open late 2016-2017 depending on what it is. Disneyland is also supposed to be getting Star Wars and it's most likely taking over Toontown and that has been said to start after the 50th celebration so that one would be very likely to open in 2020.

MY mistake. Still amazing to me how hard Avatar gets bagged on as "not being franchise material" and "not popular" when it is both US and WORLD #1 box office.

Also kind of amazed Frozen is #5 World all-time. Though it is also impressive how skewed that list is towards the modern block-buster as the world box office is so much more a significant factor the last 15 years.

If you sort the list by Worldwide, the next movie on it after Titanic that was released before the year 2000 is Jurrasic Park at #25.

Only 5 pre-2001 movies in the top 50, and only 7 in the top 100. (An interestingly NONE for the year 2000.)

And after Avatar and Titanic, the rest of the top 10 are all < 4 years old.

This quote is EXACTLY why I highly caution anyone's assessments of recent/ new movies in terms of their longterm impact/franchise potential.

It's just like 2007 housing prices and the sales at Saratoga....

FAKE!!!!!

This is the disconnect...

What you say is 100% reasonable... But the mystery shouldn't be there...

By delaying any construction on Star Wars..they can do low cost ad campaigns to draw people to wdw...and sell low cost merchandise at high profit...
And THEN use construction to draw people
Back.

This is "measured investment"...and it is standard procedure.

Anything that opens in 2016 at this "late" hour would be superficial at best

Saw the piers/platforms being built up over the water last week. First impression was it's really going to change the landscape of the Poly. Thoughts then moved to how cool it could be to stay in a stationary houseboat. I wonder if they'll allow fishing off the deck?

Three fish per day, which can be scheduled up to 60 days in advance.

But you are guaranteed 3 fish (subject to availability, of course.....)

Can that be considered an ADR? If so, you can reserve at 180 days. :lmao:

j
Actually, catching them is FP+. However if you want somebody to cook them it is an ADR. You have to have them cooked before you can catch them which will be interesting! :rotfl:
