Tokyo doesn't cut corners. They seem to do everything to the absolute best of their ability and then maintain it in pristine working condition from there on out. One of the most obvious differences I noticed was the quality of their shows. A WDW show will have song, dance, and a few props. A Tokyo show will have song, dance, props, water, fire, aerial work, lighting effects, fog, live music.... They spent 22 million on a spinner ride. I wouldn't be surprised if they spent hundreds of millions on "Anna and the Snow Queen".

It's undeniable that the Oriental Land Company has done an impeccable job at maintaining Tokyo Disney, but I don't think 500 million is feasible at all, especially considering that a new ride is not likely to increase their attendance numbers by a lot.

If my sources are correct, in the top 5 of the most expensive rides ever, Disney has 4 of most expensive attractions ever built, and none of them is in Tokyo (and probably most of them are in the 150-200 million range).

If that info is correct, 75 million is actually a decent amount of money given the fact that they already have most of the infraestructure there.

I'm not trying to make the claim that Tokyo's budget is $500 million. It's all rumor and speculation at this point. What I do believe is if it cost $100 million to build a shortened-version copy & paste omnimover ride in New Fantasyland, then we can expect Tokyo to spend substantially more than that on whatever they're going to build.

That makes no sense. The little mermaid cost 100 but it will take 5 times that for Tokyo? There has to be something else going on here.

Because OLC likes to pay for good stuff...

It's still about the awe value to them.

It's not about options, low risk blackrock portfolios, and the Illinois public workers pension fund.

Hey, the Illinois crowd doesn't want your pessimistic Joisey finger pointing humor directed our way. :smokin:

First...
I usually use "California public employees pension fund" (a known huge investor in Disney stock)...but wanted to change it up.

And New Jersey doesn't buy Disney stock... Because whoever is governor drains the fund to pay for mass transit nobody uses or new access roads that only serve commercial builders.

Lets get it straight, huh?

OK, but that still doesn't explain 5 to 1. Maybe double the cost or stretch to triple, but maybe they have the opposite trouble and are flushing money down the drain.

Like I said in a previous post Tokyo is expected to get a brand new ride with brand new ride tech. Not the same thing Epcot is getting.

Well, to be fair, Mickey's Toontown Fair had to be demolished and a new building had to be built to house Little Mermaid. In this case I'm guessing they'll preserve the building and build a few additional rooms to make the queue/ride longer. And I agree that 500 million for Frozen in Tokyo is not going to happen unless they use actual diamonds to decorate Elsa's castle. Radiator Springs Racers (allegedly DLR's most expensive attraction, and one of the most expensive rides in the world) had a cost of about $200 million.
Tokyo always gets the biggest and best things because disney doesn't have to pay for it the oriental company does. To me this makes complete sense especially when the ride is supposed to have new ride tech.

Think track less ride technology and maybe something's that haven't been seen before with frozen. Tokyo has some of the most pristine parks in the world, they are not owned by disney at all they lease everything from disney OLC pays for everything they have a lot of money and like to spend it. Disney imagineers know they can go there with ideas and they will pay for them. TDL gets new parades like every year or so think WDW would ever do that?

Edit: I would also like to add this is more than just a ride a restaurant and meet and greet will be included in this so its more of a frozen area that will cost 450 million rather than just the attraction. Again though OLC will pay for it doesn't surprise me one bit.

Disneyland news

Big hero 6 is coming to the Magic Eye theater for a preview beginning 9/26/14. This is the theater that had Captain EO that has yet to return. Is this the end of Captain EO?

A fire broke out at the Animal Kingdom Lodge today in a Storage room at Boma. The Jambo house section was evacuated for an hour and 40 minutes Everything is okay now and guests were let back in no injuries reported.

"fire in a Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge storage room prompted the evacuation of a restaurant around 6:45 p.m. Monday, a fire official said.

"[It] wasn't a big fire, wasn't a lot of fire conditions, but it put out a lot of smoke," said Bo Jones, assistant chief of the Reedy Creek Fire & Rescue Departments.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Jones said it likely started near a paint can in a storage room.

No injuries were reported, but the Boma restaurant was evacuated "just to get the smoke out," Jones said."

Seems to be on the level of Pandora.

I am now hearing from a source the one who gave info about the original frozen event is now saying more frozen events will be coming for christmas time and some May be add ons like a dessert party or something similar. And of course people will buy in to something they shouldn't. I thought frozen was a good movie but Disney May be going to far. The only park that will not have something happening frozen wise come November will be Animal Kingdom.

Any rumors on release date/ date tickets would go on sale? Kenny posted MVMCP with Anna, Elsa, Kristoff & Olaf event like the MNSSHP VSS.
