Six flags has followed suit and banned selfie sticks chain wide

http://fortune.com/2015/07/23/selfie-sticks-six-flags/

Universal has not banned them yet, it will be interesting to see if they do so.

I've said it before. I don't think Disney wanted to ban selfie sticks in the park, they just wanted to ban them on rides but had trouble enforcing the policy. I don't know how Six Flags works but Universal won't let you take ANYTHING on most rides. So banning selfie sticks from rides is a lot easier for them.

That's a very good point. Six flags lets you take loose articles on rides but your advised not too. They have lockers outside most rides as well.

I'm purely guessing here...We will get seated into an individual seat with shoulder and lap restraints. Then they'll raise us like in Soarin' but we'll tip forward so we're facing downwards to some degree. Sort of like Superman at Great Adventure. Then we'll have a big screen showing us Pandora and a bit of the Banshee. I imagine the seats would move around a lot more than Soarin' as well. That's the only thing I can think of when I keep hearing "Like Soarin' but thrilling" and Banshee.

I agree with this. At least I think it is a best case scenario since I'm 99.9% sure we won't get anything that moves through physical space like Forbidden Journey or even Ellen. I think it could take you higher than Soarin' and the screen will be both above, below and in front of you, and your seats will tilt forward or back based on where the banshee is flying. Maybe I'm getting my hopes way too far up though.

Here are the leaked blue prints for the show building

You'll have four theaters. That red section on the right is part of the boat ride. Dark green, blue, yellow, and pinkish sections are the theaters. Purple is queue area. Orange, magenta, and neon green are electrical and CM rooms.

How big are these theaters compared to Soarin'? It looks like there are two screens per each theater. Could this possibly have 8 screens to Soarin's 2? Or 4 times the capacity? That could really help the wait times, unless the movie is also twice as long.

You have one large screen not two. The screens are on the corners of the building. this will have higher capacity than soarin but I'm not positive on just how much higher it will be.

I think the exclusivity runs out in 2017. Wouldn't that be just in time for Avatars grand opening?

Could they possibly be allowed to build a ride with the technology as long as it doesn't open to the public before then?

Use isn't typically defined by deployment to the public, but rather the use of the IP in products or even product designs that may or may not ever be sold to the public. It's probable that Disney would have to have a license with Kuka in place to even design the ride using the technology, so I can't see how they could possibly be deploying this technology in anything that is currently planned. Kuka is a robotics company and their technology is typically deployed in factories, not amusement parks. Their entertainment division is tiny in comparison to the rest of the company and it almost seems like something they do more for the PR than anything.

Realistically though if DHS work is 4-5 years in the making, they could wait until 2017 to license the technology before installation. (They can undoubtably DESIGN with the technology in mind and not be under license infringment. Infringing on a license usually comes from actually profitting from the design.

Truth be told, I don't think they will though. Can't be the only option out there.

You can infringe a patent and never make any money off it. Damages and infringement are two separate issues.

There is so much ride-related technology out there that I can't imagine Disney wanting to use technology that is so synonymous with Harry Potter/Universal. I also can't imagine them copying technology that will have been deployed by Universal eight years before Avatarland opens. I'm holding out hope this will be something new and good.
