Pete,

I was actually talking about herb rymans...

Without it...no Disneyland... And it was done start to finish in an amazing 24 hours and flown cross country

There's a shocker after Cinderella just opened with $70+ million the same weekend. (And wasn't this also when Alice in Wonderland made a BILLION dollars?)

Yeah... But then they make a "alice 2"...

Let the shark jumping begin. Lewis carrol never wrote a sequel

Don't get me started. Breyers, in my opinion, was one of the best ice creams you could by at your local store. Their claim to fame was using all natural ingredients. Now with all the cost cutting changes, they can't even call most of their products "Ice cream". They are now "Frozen dairy desserts".

Yes...there has been a loss of Income relative to inflation and a general price gouge since "the war on terror"....in all things...especially day to day "cheap" things.

But a place like wdw will get racked when the next recession ( or depression based on the stupidity of the masses) hits...
They always have but the next time could be the big one.

Why? Because the escalation of price will be impossible to maintain and get anyone there. There isn't this "mass of wealth" out there...there is a continuing escalation of debt. It's the "fire" than runs the engine. And I'm talking about personal debt - not public debt.

Travel is always the first to be hit...but most try to save it and overextend. So Disney has never really felt the teeth. CMB has positioned the parks business horribly to withstand it...increasing prices aggressively on everything...while sinking all the resources into china at this point. Even with all the "free dining" you want...the $3000 package from pre real estate crash is like a $5000-$6000 now...that is major scratch for an already overextended core clientele.

Those pieces are in different positions now. It maybe whatever bubble crashes next...or the one after that.

Just watch from the weeds

Lewis Carroll wrote Through the Looking Glass as the sequel to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The Disney versions drew heavily from both books to create a mash-up.

Lol...I thought of that after I posted...

But the reality is that Disney has done this before... When you try to freelance quickly on an established character...it starts widespread erosion... As we saw in Cinderella IV: an enchanted journey to blockbuster.

In five years... They could very easily have bludgeoned all their classic brands, Pixar brands, Star Wars, and the marvel franchises to the point where the people are begging for mercy...

But Iger will be long gone...and there's no roy Disney to guard the vault.

Dangerous times...the fact they're raking money doesn't change the dangers or the risks

Exciting news coming from Japan. Universal Studios Japan announced that they were actively exploring the development of a new theme park.

Read the articles for all the interesting specifics. I'm a little surprised by both the theme and budget. 200 million. It may be more of Boutique Park.

I'm sure Oriental is watching closely...

If they are only putting 200 million into it that won't make a dent in the orientals. Those Tokyo parks are packed on a daily basis.

I'm hoping it ends up being more. Admittedly I'm not an expert on Okinawa's culture so I'm drawing a blank on what this means. If there's anyone with experience do share.

This definitely isn't going to be competing with Tokyo Disneyland. This picture sums up everything well:

Red is the city where their current Resort is, Purple is the new place of interest, and Tokyo is visible to the North.

Not even close to each other. However Oriental Land Company has shown interest in using its capital to expand into other ventures (Casinos, Hotels, Malls, etc.)

I'm going out on a limb and guessing this isn't going to be Universal branded. Why would there be a random Universal Theme Park without any Universal IP or attractions? Doesn't make sense does it?

I wonder if Oriental Land is going to follow suit. Finally build its non Disney assets. Disney can be a pain to work with. This could be their chance.

Then again, there's always Park 3 Spirit has talked about...

OLC would have to buy some of that surrounding land because they just don't have that much room for a third park. Both TDL and DisneySea are going to see major expansions in the next few years. OLC is also constantly updating their hotels and changing things. They love to dump money into those parks and it shows heck that's why they are on the top of the World theme parks behind MK

Disney CFO Jay Rasulo has sold 12 million in Disney shares
That's $12 million. 115,000 shares.

Interesting that it is only half of what he holds, but I agree that this looks like another sign he is checking out.

I wonder if he'll exercise his option on any of the 650,000 shares. Guess it all depends on the option price.

I'm not sure you know how options work. A stock option allows you to "buy" a stock at a fixed price that was set many years before. So, it really depends on the value of the stock when it was given, and the value of stock when "bought". So, if Rasulo was given 650,000 Options in 2011 when the stock was worth $40, and let's say it's a 10-year option, he could "buy" 650,000 in Disney stock at $40 a share anytime up to 2021. If he did it now, he would be getting stock at $108 a share for the $40 he said. He could either keep the stock, or immediately sell it at $108, and basically take $68 per share profit. (Yup - that would be $44 million.)

So when you say "I wonder if he'll exercise his option", it's more a question of when than if. Unless the stock goes down. If he were to get 650,000 in stock options this year, it would only be truly worth money if the stock continues to climb. If the stock dropped, and then stayed low for the next 10-years (or however long his options are for), then the options would be worthless.

This is why the stock market is the bottom line for these CEOs and Vice Presidents. They have way more invested in the company being profitable than just about anyone. And why the market is more important than the employees or the customers.

Yep, I do know how it works and thought that's what I meant when I said "Guess it all depends on the option price."

Perhaps I should have said "Guess it depends on the value of the stock when the option was given vs the current market price."

And "exercising your option" is what my broker calls it when I actually decide to purchase the stock. Lots to consider when exercising that option. I can spend 8 or 10 more paragraphs going over some of those details, but I thought I'd stay brief... like I thought I was doing when I said "depends on the option price".
