News Round Up 2020

Wonder what this means for people with pace makers?

The systems can pick up everything, think the X-ray system at airports but on a large scale, the issue is humans have to be able to quickly scan the info and decide what to do. The tech has the ability to identify most items of concern and redline the guests carrying the items, example the machine sees a small knife on my person or in my bag it will then use a red outline to identify me and alert security. The problem the machines do have is false positIves and items that block the machines from seeing, think water bottles, rf blocking wallets and certain bag linings. It will speed up the process immensely but there will be growing pains like most technology. Disney can basically program the machine to pick up whatever it wants too within reason.

If it can't, you get a secondary screening where you can explain your situation. No problem
See but I never had to do that before, I understand what your saying my whole thought process is on machine learning, if it makes things faster for Disney and allows them to cut screening man power then even if only one in 20 guests need extra screening with the amount of people that go through at a time that extra screening line could easily get backed up which isn’t great for social distancing

Wednesday will be three weeks since they announced the WDW parks reopening. Disney really has no excuse for the minimal amount of information they have released to this point. You have people with flights and hotel stays scheduled less than a month from now that don't know officially if they actually will have a hotel room to stay in and if they will be able to get into the parks.

Anyone on this thread going during or shortly after reopening?

Have you gotten any more info that hasn't been officially released or been able to reserve park entrance (or restaurants)?

I'd be curious to know if they are contacting those with upcoming resort reservations about their stays...

We check-in 7/13, and we haven't gotten anything that hasn't been available to the general public via the parks blog. And then of course, I've gotten additional info via folks here on the DIS, but no, nothing specific regarding our stay from Disney.

You'll be able to tell when that news is out. There will be no hiding it.

Looks like Reflections is not going to happen. I never was a fan and hope they have a better idea when they are ready to move forward.

I have to say this is somewhat surprising! Yes, Disney has to front the money, but they recoup it in fairly short order. My suspicion is that Riviera sales were already impacted, both by Disney (high point cost, high point values, resale restrictions) and now they probably suspect COVID will be an even bigger drag on sales.

As an addendum to above - I had completely forgotten that RLL was designed to be a DVC/Hotel property. So, that makes more sense as to why it would get cancelled so quickly.

I bet it'll still be a much better overall experience for you, since the line should move much quicker than in the past. So although you may not get the full benefit, you get some of it. I'd assume Disney will staff enough to handle the secondary screening efficiently and not be like TSA secondary screening.

Something I learned with TSA, if you think you'll get secondary screening, have other people you are with carry all the bags. I carried shelf stable milk for my daughter through TSA until she was 4, most of the time it wasn't an issue but sometimes they'd want me to open it. I'd refuse to open it, as that would ruin the shelf stableness. To "prove" the milk was not a bomb, they would give me a full pat down and hand search my bags. Only took once for us to learn to have my wife take all the bags, except for the diaper bag.

Looks like Reflections is not going to happen. I hate to see things cancelled but I never was a fan of this DVC. It just did not fit the area in my mind. I hope they have a better idea when they are ready to move forward. WL is our favorite resort and the land has so much potential.

I'm thrilled this one is cancelled. But my question is, is the damage already done? Last time I was there the fences were so intrusive that I couldn't tell how much land they had already torn up. The amount of beach space for HAE was very sad. On an unrelated note, can we start a petition for Disney to replace the terrible speakers in HAE viewing locations. I can never hear it and have to sync it up with my phone and listen with headphones. And half the time a youtube commercial will play halfway through and throw the whole thing off. Are they bad on purpose so we'll watch in the parks? It would be a super cheap fix.

We are supposed to be at Disney on opening day and we don’t know anything. I asked Guest Service, “What does a person do if they have a 10 day ticket and are only able to get 2 days of park reservations?” She put me hold for a long time to try to find an answer, but came back with “sorry, they don’t have an answer.“ She really tried to help. We are allowed to cancel a paid trip within 24 hours of arrival.

Is there any details on the one building they did build? Looks like a service building for housekeeping or maybe additional stable space?
