News Round Up 2020

If it's a modified F&W, I read where the band Starship posted on twitter that 'Eat to the Beat' was cancelled ... I think the tweet was removed, but since they play every year they may be in the know.
Yes I have heard eat to the beat is canceled. That makes sense. I think if they wanted they could still have food booths. The seminars and stuff like that will be the things that are modified or canceled I would think.

I'm very far behind so apologize for "old responses"
This is the most detailed, thorough guideline I've seen posted so far...

Seeing as how the vast majority of the bags Disney sells aren't clear, I don't see that being a recommendation they choose to follow. You can sell a lot more bags that people can use all the time than bags they will only use for certain venues.
But.....if Disney can make some awesome clear backpacks/bags with various characters on them......looks like some good sales to me. Personally, last December I used the generic clear backpack and each time I went through security the response was, "I'm liking the clear bags"!

Question--will this be sophisticated enough to catch the prohibited items like selfie sticks? I know that article said "Groups are able to pass through unimpeded, and any persons that require closer screening are moved to one side where they are asked to empty the contents of bags for inspection by a CM in a much more hands-off way than previously seen at the parks." but didn't know if that meant it was able to actually look for those types of items.

That’s a good question. With the amount of vlogging devices out there now I’m not sure. I’d have to guess no probably.

I highly doubt it, but I think catching truly dangerous items is the main goal, and honestly with the need for a new post covid screening process I think this is the only thing that should be of concern initially. They can focus on looking for contraband and other banned items later. People still get selfie sticks in all the time. But they aren’t allowed to use them in the parks or a CM will say something to them. I’m not worried about someone bringing in a flask or a selfie stick right now. A fast way to get through security that’s efficient at catching weapons would be an upgrade if it works as well as it claims. Bag check obviously finds things occasionally but I’ve always worried that it’s wouldn’t be too difficult to sneak something through if you can avoid the metal detectors.

Isn't the issue with selfie sticks safety as well especially on the rides? Also illegal substances (which with a bag check at least had the opportunity to be found), heck even their stroller adjustment that they spent so much on harping to guests (enforcement or no on it it still was a big deal) and other things. Its certainly within Disney's rights to temporarily suspend actual monitoring of prohibited items but that also could cause confusion. Kinda like once that cat is out of the bag type thinking.

I'm def. all for a quicker entry and yes that would be efficient in catching likely the knives and guns that you might be thinking of but the way that the article was written is they are likely needing a whole reform on their security entry process for the future not that they could go back to what it once was (or at least for quite a while IMO as it was discussed "in a post-COVID world") eventually.

IF these things are here to stay (which sound awesome to be able to just walk on through) then other things will have to give. I was more or less curious on what the machines will be picking up and not picking up and then a subsequent thought was how will Disney handle their prohibited items list in that respects. Just musings out loud.

The systems can pick up everything, think the X-ray system at airports but on a large scale, the issue is humans have to be able to quickly scan the info and decide what to do. The tech has the ability to identify most items of concern and redline the guests carrying the items, example the machine sees a small knife on my person or in my bag it will then use a red outline to identify me and alert security. The problem the machines do have is false positIves and items that block the machines from seeing, think water bottles, rf blocking wallets and certain bag linings. It will speed up the process immensely but there will be growing pains like most technology. Disney can basically program the machine to pick up whatever it wants too within reason.

That's good info to know thanks :)

That does not sound like something that my insulin pump can be exposed to. :/

They will more than likely have a disabled entrance, but your pump is electronically shielded so you shouldn’t have any issues.
Hopefully the manufacturer provides guidance if these things become widespread. Most pumps today are OK for metal detectors but a no go for scatter machines or xrays.

I agree, just be safe and avoid it if possible. I don’t go thru most metal detectors due to a prosthesis, it easier to just go to the security guard and explain my situation then going thru the detector then explaining.

I bet it won't find loose ice :rotfl2:

Did something happen? Jackie's WDW update page has popped to the top of the news threads on the right column. I skimmed over it but didn't see anything. None of the TPAS or resorts threads have any updates either.
