That's what I thought. Perhaps they can't get the detail of the mountains by using regular sources of light, so they'll project onto them to achieve a more detailed look at night. Maybe they can even have a banshee or two flying across the mountains every now and then.

good point about the detail on the mountains .... and if they just used spotlights or something it would make the area look really fake so maybe this is how to get a more realistic look without killing the impressiveness but enabling you to see the details of the floating mountains?

If I recall correctly, isn't the timeline for the land to be well after the movies when a tourist company had been on Pandora? So it is really separate from the movies 9though I assume they could add in elements that connect to things featured in the movies)

Seems to be the direction they are going with Star Wars land ... more that you are immersed in an environment that fits in the "universe" rather than being "in the movie"

I understand that, and it could totally be that I'm not into Avatar or Star Wars, so maybe I just don't get it. Granted, I really wasn't that into Harry Potter (fiance fixed that) and I really enjoyed Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley.

To me, there has to be something interactive that is recognizable. Diagon Alley is filled with it because the story for that location already exists. It's already an established location within an established world. And everything within Diagon Alley has a story. It's already so fleshed out.

Pandora will open with only one movie released. Besides Floating Rocks, Bio-luminescent Trees, Dragons, and Blue People, is there really that much more to the world currently? For me, the history is just not there.

Well - I agree with your point on avatar - what really memorable except giant blue people and floating mountains. I still think the land will be cool though.

I think Star Wars is not an issue. You can have a cantina experience that's not EXACTLY the Mos Eisley cantina, but close enough - you could still have the same Cantina band playing the Cantina songs. Likewise you'll end up having Jawas and Stormtroopers wandering around. The good thing is by making it a separate planet - they can do whatever they want without being "wrong".

A simple example here I know - you don't find Jawas on Endor, or Ewoks on Tatooine, but if you call your location "Planet X" you can have both Jawas and Eewoks wandering around and still keep to the theme.

Yeah, maybe more of a continuous special effect as opposed to a show would work best.

Legally I'm not sure that would even be allowed (or quasi-legally, if it's not explicit)
At that point, Disney would be collecting personal health information, tied to an individual. That's very shaky territory to get into

I mean, in theory they could if all the conditions were satisfied, but even so, there are too many variables. Someone who is 5'0'' and weighs 110 lbs may not have the same tolerance as someone who is 6'2'' and weighs 275 lbs. Or vice versa. Tracking would be just that, just tracking. If the person wasn't acting belligerent, but they've had 7 beers already, what can the Cast Member do?

"Sorry, my screen is saying you had 5 beers already, can't let you have another one even though you don't seem the least bit impaired."

Also, there are many ways to get around meeting any of the conditions. Paying with cash, or anything not tied to a magicband for one.

You also forget the person who buys a round for a group or their spouse - they will have way more drinks attached to them and none attached to the person actually drinking them...

I am fine either way with the alcohol policy. It does seem weird after all these years that they want to bring alcohol into MK.

The funny thing is, both DHS and DAK have alcohol everywhere, but I don't ever remember seeing "drunks" in either of those parks. It's only really Epcot that seems to attract the "let's get hammered" crowd. I've said this before, but if they actually policed behavior in Epcot, even that wouldn't really be a problem. I would really hope they would police behavior in MK. It probably wouldn't be a problem most of the time, but I could see hard ticket events like MNSSHP being a potential "drunk" issue.

(The irony of this coming right now is I had just signed up for the DVC after-hours MK event in February, and was thinking how neat it would be to be able to have a few drinks during the event.)

Just add in an exclusive picture with a SW character or two with no general public line and maybe even some mickey death star ears and this is not that bad offering especially since really 7hrs goes by quickly...

I can save myself about 3 hours or more. I can go to Launch Bay myself, Disney Visa character line, FP Star Tours, skip Jedi Training (I have no interest in that and have no kids). I can also do the dessert party myself.

Well, considering I am the guy that buys my whole family drinks when I go, they probably would think I am flying higher than that balloon in DS... No way for them to tell who had what at dinner. Pay out of pocket at a booth. etc....as others have said.

One thing too, I think there is a fine line between mining data to improve the business and using data to profile a person/people.

Doesn't work if you use cash or just a credit card .... plus how do you track it if someone buys several drinks at a time for his/her entire party?

Ideally Disney would just be better about not serving people that appear intoxicated or if they see people really bad kick them out or something (though to be honest I've never really seen people very drunk at Disney/causing scenes or anything)

I think it is because they have the "Drink around the World" nature in EPCOT where you are encouraged to drink in quantity in a short period of time if you want to get all the way around the world

You don't have that "push" at AK or DHS
