News Round Up 2016

WDW makes a killing on liquor in the World Showcase - and all the drunk folks are wandering a part of the park that is of least interest to the youngest visitors. I figure they don't have a heavy hand here because they'd prefer to contain the behavior in WS rather than it meandering to other parks. Just MHO.

Probably more appropriate for the theme parks board, but this is really the only place I spend time. Just back from 5 days at the parks, anyone have questions about anything?

I would enjoy alcohol being served at table service restaurants. Since they already serve it at Belle's, I don't really see any difference in adding it to the others.

I have mixed feelings on the alcohol thing. I kind of like that it's not served in the MK and DL. But I think I only like it from a traditionalist standpoint. It's just kind of a cool relic from the past. If Walt was around now, I have no doubt he'd sell alcohol in his parks. He had it in Club 66. He had no problem drinking and smoking himself. So I doubt he'd have a problem with guest enjoying it in his parks in moderation once it became more socially acceptable to do so.

At the same time, I don't really care. I like to drink when I'm at Disney, and I have almost never bought a drink inside the parks, outside of WS. If you really want to drink, you'll find a way to do so.

I think a good compromise would be allowing wine and beer at the table service restaurants, but not allow it walking around the parks. I really don't think I want to see people with glow in the dark light cube mixed drinks walking around the Magic Kingdom.

Well alcohol is served in MK at Be Our Guest. Walt didn't want drunk people walking around the parks. We have no idea what Walt would want but I have a feeling he would have stayed with his tradition of no alcohol outside of Club 33.

Personally, I have no trouble with alcohol in any of the parks. Most adults can be responsible drinkers. Those that can't need to be attended to.

The only time I have ever seen drunk/disorderly people in any of the parks is our first and only experience at the Food and Wine event a couple of years ago. There were knee-walking drunks - loud - obnoxious - potty mouths in the garden behind UK while the band was playing. We were waiting there for our R&C reservation, and when the band was finished, the many of the people, some pushing stollers, some with older kids, stayed behind, running for more drinks to the pub. One woman was almost falling down in front of us she was so drunk.

When we finally got called for our reservation, we were seated inside - the bar was filled with so many rowdy loud people, we couldn't even here our waitress when she tried to talk. There was one Disney security guard that just kept kind of circling, but never did anything but walk around. We did not enjoy anything that evening, and ate only part of our meal and left the park. We have no desire to go back to F&W.

I realize this is not everyone's experience, but was not caused by serving alcohol. The problem was caused by them not managing the people who drank too much. By serving alcohol only with meals in restaurants, I can't see that this would be a problem.

I love having wine with a good meal...I also really love those Grey Goose slushies they serve at a vendor cart at France. That doesn't mean everyone who drinks is drinking to get drunk.

The price they charge alone for the drinks is enough to discourage me from having more than one or two...ha ha

+1

We're here now and unfortunately this place does not look anywhere close to opening. From the top of the Coke building you can see over the walls. Still lots of work to be done. A little disappointed, I really wanted to try it out this trip.
Supposedly they are aiming for early January.
