News Round Up 2016

I think anything they can do to move the security screening away from the front gate of the MK is a big win. Nothing stinks quite as much as finally arriving there, and finding a huge line. We all know it's necessary, but if we can work it into idle time, that's a win. Space wise it's too tight, which causes a slowing of service. Aesthetically it makes sense, and functionally it makes sense. Budgetary concerns may be secondary in this decision.

I was just about to say something like that. While it may cost money to having less security backup at the actual entrance, if it ended with spreading out the checkpoints as it seems it would,it should help alleviate the pain of the wait to get into a park. It's a big complaint for people in general not just at WDW to go to a place that you've spent money on only to be halted by a long line to get it. It can make the day start off on the wrong foot. Plus the quicker they can get people into the park the more money they are apt to spend considering they could potentially be spending more time in the park. This could actually be a case of thinking about the long-term payoff in spending the $$ money now...who really knows though (yes we know how WDW can be with long-term thinking :rotfl2:).

The one thing I'm interested in seeing is would this affect lines at the rides? Would screening certain people coming from different parts of the whole resort area (i.e. by bus, by car, by monorail, by boat) spread out the influx of people headed to particular rides or would there be no affect at all or a worse affect (that would be unfortunate if that happened).

I just didn't know if you or anyone knew what "fast casual dining" is Disneyspeak for. We have a trip from 11/26-12/7 so I guess we'll find out!

it is a little confusing as the article still specifically refers to lunch as quick service. The way dinner is described reminds me of how lunch at Be Our Guest works and that is a quick service dining credit, correct? So I would assume the same - though wouldn't be the first time I am wrong

I think it will still be a "quick service" dining credit - though I don't pretend to be "in the know". It's still ordering at the counter, just having the food brought to you. As @TheMaxRebo said - similar to Be Our Guest at Lunch, which is indeed QS.

Yeah, I think you're right. They still call it a quick service location: "...will offer a fast-casual dining experience for dinner, providing Guests an enhanced menu with an emphasis on made-to-order, healthful and specialty items at this quick-service location."

There are times when my family is not staying at a monorail resort, but we still have a meal at one. So we take the bus from our resort to MK and then the monorail to whatever resort we are eating at. What I don't like about the new security screening locations are that it seems we will have to get screened after taking the bus, and then again when we get on the monorail to return to MK to take a bus back to our resort, and we won't even be going into the park.

This is true - don't bring a bag...

Did Iger say in that interview 'there are things that are never going to be big' about video games?? I don't think there was a good quote for the reasons behind shutting down Disney Infinity and console game publishing. Maybe Disney Infinity didn't make the most money but the video game market is huge. DC video games are amazing...Marvel, not so much. SW used to have great games but I have no faith in future games now that Disney owns them.

I never was a big gamer. I'd get the new hot thing like the wii or whatever but never was into that stuff much. I did get Disney infinity for the 360 though. I loved the concept and enjoyed the game. Only downside is the fact that it was expensive having to buy the characters and disks.

We,l they did figure how to turn the usual $59-79 video game into a $500-1000 game but then that is likely what killed it too.

I don't really think so. It would certainly cost Disney more, but they would do the security check as people approach the boat dock. So most people would have security done during the time you would be waiting for the boat to show up anyways. The people that would get stuck would be anyone running for the boat as it's getting ready to leave. You would just have to wait until the next boat.

There were recent aerial photos, likely in this thread, showing construction already under way for a new security check point being built, in the green space next to the ferry dock, for those arriving by boat.

Does this mean eventually moving the ticket styles further out from the station to allow more people into the courtyard?

EDIT- Found the link- http://www.orlandoparksnews.com/2016/10/updated-aerial-imagery-of-walt-disney.html

Does that make the cut for Lockout's, only believe the shovels mantra?
