News Round Up 2016

What I find weird is that Disney is announcing that all these things are opening April 22nd, but what they aren't announcing is extended park hours. The park calendar still shows AK closing at 6:30 PM on April 22nd. Sunset is at 8 PM, so I'm thinking that that time is going to change.

I think the April update schedule posts on Friday, right? I read that somewhere a few days ago.

It really doesn't matter what size/speed/quality a phone is. You simply design it for the version(s) of android you want to support. Using that argument would be like saying it is hard to make a windows app because of all the different types of windows machines out there. Nobody builds an app with a specific machine in mind - they build it with a specific OS in mind.

For example, the latest version of Android is marshmallow. If you make an app that works with marshmallow, then it will work on every phone that has marshmallow. It's that simple. And it is the same on the iOS side.

Your also forgetting that there are different sizes and capabilities in the apple ecosystem as well. The 6, 6s, 5, 5s,etc....

My point earlier though is in regards to apps that really should be able to run on *anything* based on their simplicity.

2 years ago Little Mermaid came back to theaters and we decided to take our daughter as her first movie. She was 3 at the time. They heavily advertised an app that would allow the lyrics to show up to all the songs, answer questions about the movie, etc... As in, there were actually segments in the movie where things paused so the audience could interact on their device. The problem was, it was for Ipads only. Not Iphones. Ipads. Considering I own a pile of kindles and yet another pile of android based tablets, it was frustrating to realize I had nothing that was compatible with this app. And there was no reason not to port it. We aren't talking some technical achievement here. We are talking about a very basic app that just displays lyrics, facts, and a few other things during a movie. Not only should it have supported other tablets, it should have supported iphones and android phones as well. Otherwise, why integrate something like that into a theater showing to the point that it is disruptive for every family in the audience that doesn't own an iPad. Anyways, sorry to derail, I just see a trend with them when it comes to their companion apps that tends to be frustrating.

In this case, I can thank them I suppose for making it real easy for me to turn down their $200 box of ghost leftovers.
I can understand the thought process but if making a app work on one version of the os was all it took my days would be a lot easier. Even with Windows hardware makes a huge difference. Take major game releases they always have issues and bugs because of people running different graphics cards, drivers , ect.

Now android compounds that problem by letting companies use custom versions of their os. That's the biggest reason it takes so long for phones to update to a new os. With Apple a new update is released and everyone with comparable hardware updates. With Android each device manufacturer has to tailor the update to work with the changes they made. Leading to some phones never updating.

How long then before some accountant suggests opening the park later to save money? I'm only half joking...

I could see a lot of guests without hoppers opening AK without FP+ knocking out Safari/EE/FOTLK and maybe SB DINO or Nemo or TTBAB-then breaking at the hotel for lunch/swim/rest. Then return that evening with FP+ for the 2 Avatar attractions and ROL.

I also wonder how they will handle summertime when it is light until 9:30 PM. Do they keep DAK open until midnight? Without Avatar open, I foresee problems keeping people in the park so late. Do we start seeing an actual thinning of crowds at DAK, where there are less people during the day because they come over later in the day to see the nighttime offerings.

We're curious to see how this will play out. We'll be there on April 22nd and are waiting to see if we switch up our days. We'd love to go see RoL and eat at Tiffins if possible.

If Tiffins will open on 4/22, do you think they'll open it up to reservations soon?

I am seeing rumors that Disney Dollars will no longer be sold as of today. I called and bought some just now, I was told by the Disney rep that they were told YESTERDAY was the last day but tried for me and she was still able to sell them.

Ugh - I LOVE Indiana Jones, but can't they just accept Harrison is too old for the role and recast it. There are some really good Indiana Jones stories out there in comics form that could be translated into great movies.

Although - set the movie in 1980 with a 75-year old Indiana Jones hired as a consultant on a movie based on his real-life adventurers during WWII called "Raiders of the Lost Ark" in which they stumble across a real-life cursed artifact that starts picking off the players one-by-one....

I think they are going to call it "Indiana Jones and the search for the great Hip replacement"

I think they are just phasing them out so they aren't making anymore but will still sell them as they have them left.

You can see some of the show-building toppers going in... can't wait to see where the walking areas are.
