News Round Up 2016

I wish they would bring back the "Diamond Horseshoe Revue". But with all the cuts they have been doing, I doubt they would add in more entertainment. It was a silly little show (think Hoop-Dee-doo lite) and just offered sandwiches/ salads, but it sure was fun.

Rteetz, thanks for all you do on this thread. You do a wonderful job and it is appreciated!

According to WDWNT Disneyland will do tiered pricing first.

I'm skeptical I think both will do it not just one.

Where I work there is trend when it comes to change....people love to try things out on a smaller scale and call it a "pilot" -- pilot being political jargon for "let's just call it a pilot so we can get people used to the idea, let them see it's not too bad, tell them it worked well and then implement it more broadly." I could totally see Disney doing this with tiered pricing -- let's try it at DL, see how it goes and how it affects attendance, work out the "kinks," etc...and then they'll go ahead and do it at WDW...but then again...I don't doubt the might just do it everywhere all at once!

To me, tiering doesn't make sense for WDW. They are at the height still, and I think they could still get away with another 10-15% across the board hike on tickets. Tiering will have more of a negative backlash, and I don't think it will increase revenues much more than a sweeping % increase would do. We shall see shortly, if Sunday is indeed the day.

One thing I hadn't thought of was that DLR currently doesn't have scanners for MBs, KTTW cards, or phones, in order to do something like FP+. This makes it currently difficult to go the number of attractions based route and boosts the idea of it being seasonal prices. I had only been thinking of WDW, where it would be easy to base it on attractions. I don't doubt that DLR will have some sort of scanners, or something, in the near future for electronic tracking of "things", but they don't currently have it.

Newer actors with probably less pay.
these are entertainment contracts and they are all union jobs so i doubt they will make significantly less. also they are adding more to star wars area so if you check it out, the number of characters is probably very near the same, just being dispersed differently

I understand but they still shouldn't have to disperse them differently. Disney can afford to have all of them no problem streetmosphere is one of the best things DHS has.

Union or not, people generally get pay raises based on length of employment so new hires are cheaper.

i said this on another thread but DL is competing with parks that already do tiered pricing and they also dont have the dinamics the WDW has. We have DVC and have four parks as well as how many hotel rooms we have to fill? also Universal just raised their prices and orlando didn;t go to tiered pricing so while I do see a price increase coming, unless they want to deal with DVC members all wanting to cash in points duing the so called off seasons, disney probably won't go with that model here. They might do a pilot program at DL and find out it really does little to control crowds just as raising their AP's sky high hasnt changed the number of renewals significantly. I think the only thing that would cut the number of Aps in california is to eliminate monthly payment plan and require full payment up front.

I don't like it, but I actually think tiered pricing makes sense for Disneyland. Most people are either passholders, getting some kind of SoCal ticket deal or are the kind of 1-3-day ticket that would be fine for tiered pricing. I agree it doesn't make sense at WDW. We have 10-day tickets and our first day will be the Saturday after Easter. If I had to pay a higher price for my 10-day because I had 1 day that was considered "peak," I would be really annoyed.

I also don't understand cutting streetmosphere. It's not really my thing, but does it seem like HS can handle having fewer things for people to do. I really hope they don't have to close TSMM long when the 3rd track comes online. Imagine the park then. Eeek. Also, isn't it rumored that Beaty and the Beast will close. Talk about 1/2 day park.

I haven't seen anything that says it will be DL only. While I don't want it to happen I can't see it not happening at this point. Disney also already has experience with tiered pricing they do it in Paris. They will be doing it in Shanghai. DL may look like it has competition but it still gets a ton more than UNI Hollywood or Knotts.

I think it is the ticket requirement that is killing free dining for me personally. We usually have annual passes so we don't need to buy more tickets.

I do miss the good old days of free dining. Our first year using it we stayed at a value for about $60 a night and had the free table service plan.

Was that perhaps during the fallout from the real estate crash?
