If you check out Tumblr (and probably elsewhere) there's quite a lot of 'shipping and fanfic (and probably slashfic) for that couple.

I don't think it was the writers intent really but fans of that persuasion don't have a lot else to latch on to.

This guy has really been going wild recently. Don't know if this was mentioned in the article because I didn't ready the whole bit, but his company Wanda recently entered into an agreement with Velon a group of about 11 cycling teams trying to change the professional cycling calendar and they are also trying to buy the Tour de France and the other 2 grand tours of cycling. He also owns at least a large percent of Club Atletico Madrid soccer team. I don't know a ton about China and Chinese politics but it makes me wonder if he's doing this because he's a colorful billionaire a la Mikhail Prokhorov and Mark Cuban etc or if he's getting some "friendly advice" from official China. Anyway that was only tangentially related. Sorry y'all just thought I'd nerd out for a minute.

Agreed the Wanda Group is making tons of purchases but they are also one of those companies that around us but we don't know it. AMC and Legendary Entertainment are probably the biggest in America. They also made an odd sports purchase of a Triathlon group. I will tell you that they do own a few entertainment centers in China. They are willing to pour money into things but it seems odd to choose close to Disneyland Paris considering how it performs.

That strikes me as a surprisingly cheap build. I know the total money isn't everything, and that different companies use resources very differently, but 3.3 Billion in France (where labor and construction costs are high) is going to have difficulty creating a compelling competitor. Especially because this isn't opening until 2024. There's no telling what DLP will have invested in by then. A new Marvel, Pixar, or SW Land? It's all a possibility.

Keep in mind that the original Euro Disney cost 4 Billion. Adjusted for inflation that's around double this development's cost. Shanghai Disneyland is costing over 5 Billion. I'm not sure that they can turn this into a major victory. I predict budget overruns.

We'll see in 8 years...

Edit: I'm looking over the content again, and I have answer to why this appeared so cheap. They're "investing" not completely financing. My mistake. That doesn't negate the fact that DLP will continue to move forward, but it does explain the budget.

That's what I get for taking Disneyandmore at face value... ;)

I am not sure that the idea is a big deal - there's very little material of a sexual nature in the star wars movies - Leia and Han's flirting in ESB and Anakin and Padme's whatever-that-was in ATOC and ROTS.

Every single character in The Force Awakens could've been gay - how would you tell? It would be the exact same movie.

Well if they'd kissed I'd have known. ;)

While the romance aspect is secondary and sex is apparently unknown in a galaxy far far away, there are couples. We haven't really seen a gay couple yet.

Is that a big deal? Depends really. People who are vehemently anti-gay marriage probably would find it a big deal (look what a fuss there was about a black Storm Trooper), and those who would like their lifestyle to be visible in the things they enjoy would probably appreciate it quite a lot.
 
There could be a gay character without any evident hint at his/her sexuality being portrayed. We only knew Dumbledore was gay after the sixth film had been released.
