News Round Up 2016

Star Wars fireworks will likely be the new wishes.

YUP! Totally agree.

Lots of nights we are leaving MK and seeing the flood of humanity coming in just to watch Wishes. I'm at the point if I'm there I watch from where I am, if I'm not I won't make a special trip to see them. BUT Star Wars fireworks, particularly with the added projections etc ... yes I will get myself to the park just for that.

But to also have Fantasmic? A pretty good evening at DHS.

I guess I kinda see this different.

I think the fireworks will reduce the number of Fantasmic shows offered. I seem to remember a time it was only a few nights a week. There has also been off and on conversation about it needing a complete rehab (I agree) and I wouldn't be surprised to see it go down after the new fireworks are happening for changes. Just my opinion of course.

Agreed. They did for Fantasmic as well so it will really be busy at night. Rides are not always on everyone's mind, but having 3 FP+ mixed in why not.

As you can see in the concept art the fireworks are off to the right of the theater. This indicates they will use the new launch area being built as that area is not in direct line with the Chinese theater. I have also heard now that this show has a lot of new "toys" that will be used.

Hopefully, the dessert party continues too, and with alcohol. Those Wishes dessert parties are full of the most unfriendly, grumpy guests I have ever met.

Wonderful new addition to DHS, but with Soarin and Frozen already listed as opening in "summer" it adds even more trepidation to an early June trip.

By summertime at some point, we will have Celebrate the Magic/Wishes, Illuminations RoE, RoL in AK and Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular fireworks/projection show (as well as Fantasmic I assume) in DHS to choose from. Since everyone has complained for years that the MK night time show was ridiculously packed with park goers, I will be interested to see how the crowds spread out now across all of WDW for these shows. Maybe this will lessen the burden on the MK for once.

Actually they could prop that sort of stuff up for a very long time. It's one of the advantages of being a semi-communist autocratic regime. At that point however the money earned in China might not be worth very much anywhere else.
China isnt like brazil. even a slow down in the chinese economy means money. as far as money not beingworth anything, the chinese will put the money back into china. as far as fantasmic, a new show is coming to disneyland summer 2017 so it would make sense that DHS would have something new around the same time. I have to admit I am looking forward to the new show as I know what the special effects crews are capable of at MK. and AK so lets see what they do with DHS

I agree with a Fantasmic Redo, but hopefully once it's refurbed and updated they'll keep the show running at least nightly, if not twice on long nights.

I can't wait to see this firework show. Two new night shows to be excited about for my next trip. They say Disney never does anything new...

I pray for it.

As we already know from the big Florida Tourism presentation from earlier this week Bob Chapek head of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts is in town. Along with him... Kathy Magnum WDI creative lead for Walt Disney World, and Walt Disney Imagineering head Bob Weiss. I believe this is Bob's first visit since getting the new title. Apparently there are even more imagineers in town as the Scar lot is being reserved for WDI currently.

I mean in that it isn't going to be going away anytime soon. Wishes has been around for a long time.
I also think it might become the most popular nighttime show ... and it will have years of movies/spin offs/cartoons to keep it popular.

What do you mean by this exactly? The most in demand show?

I think it will become more popular than Wishes in time if you could actually determine that but ...
... the structure and size and demand of the individual parks aside from fireworks, means you can't compare the crowds in each.

Once the two new sections of DHS are built I think you could get a better comparison of the direct demand of fireworks in terms of popularity.

I don't know if it will become more popular than wishes. When people come to Disney especially first timers they want to watch the fireworks in front of the castle. I do think it will become more popular than illuminations though, even though currently illuminations is my favorite show. Rivers of light also will be in play.

As I said I don't know if there would ever be a way to even calculate this due to so many factors in play. If it were straight up attendance for no other reason but to see the fireworks I think it will be a contender, particularly since it will have projections, lasers and fire!

First timers absolutely will have to see Wishes front and center, but I think first timers will also schedule themselves to see all the night time shows. Rivers of Light is going to be something so new and different, it for sure will be popular but I don't think I would compare it to fireworks, more like Fantasmic. I think Rivers of Light is going to hurt Fantasmic (and I hope so ... so that it will get an overhaul).

First timers excluded. The question is what show will guests want to repeat more than once? What show will guests make that effort to park hop to or get checked in and hustle to see? No rides or dinner or parade in the calculation, just fireworks. We'll never know but I know after what, 12 years of Wishes, I am happy about something new and fresh. Love the current SW fireworks so to add the projections and stuff - I would watch Wishes and Illuminations once and then try to see SW ones multiple times.

I don't disagree I just think Wishes will still stay most popular and then Star Wars at number two. Of course I also would like to see something new with wishes but first timers will probably not like that and people who love the show. You can never make everyone happy though. I'm sure there are people who don't like Star Wars fireworks either.

I have to think that Wishes is in its final years. By the 50th if not sooner it must be replaced surely?
