News Round Up 2016

I don't think Bob has the guts to tell China no.

I think bob entered into an ill advised contract agreement.

The Chinese are going to take over the place to control it. This is not Hong Kong...

And if it struggles...they'll pull the plug. That would a disasterous development and black eye for the whole parks mystique.

Face it. They got greedy, and now they are getting bit. This is what happens with many companies when they deal with China:sad2: I don't know when corporations are going to learn.

I think alcohol in moderation relaxes people, so that the crowds and waits aren't as irritating. I am trying to keep positive. I know everyone was all gloomy and doomy about FP+, but we actually don't mind it. Some things are better than the paper ones, and some aren't. So it's about even for us, but definitely not worse. I weathered that storm just fine. Crowds don't usually bother me, so I am hoping that will pull us through:worried: Hope your trip is good.

I don't really like it. It's very flashy and over-stimulated, like most websites, especially Facebook. It's difficult to tell what the articles actually are.

Oh I'm trying to stay positive too. It IS a trip to Disney after all, lol. Hope that you enjoy yours as well!

On the subject of the blog, I checked it this morning and thought I had clicked on the wrong link....I don't like it at all. :crazy2:

I don't think either side will pull the plug.

Disney's track record is that they just keeping pushing away with parks that do badly. And the Chinese government is more likely to just "make" it successful (on paper at least) than have a public failure.

China as it currently is operated.

You know as well as I do...the Japanese economy is still digging out from 1987. Things change.

That may be true but the Tokyo parks are basically second to MK when it comes to attendance. You think people would go crazy for FPs at WDW out there, there is a mad rush for FPs where people literally sprint to get them and they are gone within an hour or two. Rope drop is huge out there.

It's worth noting that the problems in Hong Kong do not all point to problems for Shanghai. I did some more reading on this. There are multiple issues going on with Hong Kong right now.

1) The park is very small and in need of expansion (which Disney knows, thus the announcement).
2) There are political disruptions in Hong Kong currently which are affecting tourism.
3) Currency exchange rates are also negatively impacting Hong Kong tourism
4) Yes the Chinese economic slowdown is hurting (this one will impact Shanghai)

It would be overly simplistic to say Hong Kong is doing badly therefore Shanghai is in trouble. Shanghai's issues are mostly separate to Hong Kong's.

Yes Hong Kong is small and a second park has been in the works for a while now it's just because of problems, with WDI and the economy in China it's been put on hold.

One might think that makes sense with the cut back of fantasmic's second show.....you know financially speaking.

Come to our park. There's hardly any rides, but we do have a pretty fireworks show at the end of the day!

Sounds like a nice plussing actually, and I assume the fireworks show will benefit from the new launch pad they're building. They just need to get the actual park sorted out now.

The comparison I was making wasn't to Tokyo because of Disneyland...

What I was saying is the Chinese economy is In pretty big trouble...their manufacturing growth/expansion is now looking like they may have mortgaged the farm...much like Brazil.

What I meant was that the Chinese government could change/lose the ability of propping up a failing park in Shanghai...

Remember they built a multi year hoax for 2008 Olympics...it was all a sham...and they are notorious for paying people "just to live" or "just to work"...they may not have the economic muscle to do things like that forever.
