News Round Up 2016

You could argue that the pattern has changed though. There are thousands of little boys who are dying to go meet Elsa, millions who loved Rey and tons of people who thought Mulan and Belle were true role models, including lots of males who are not ashamed to admit their favorite character is a princess.

It's still an issue? Of course. Social conditioning tells us girls have to like girly stuff and boys have to enjoy manly stuff. This is still a business, and Disney can't afford to fully change the pattern and expect males all around the world to accept it and purchase a ticket for their movie. It's still a huge jump from the princesses we know from the early Disney stuff, and lead female characters are now true role models. From a business perspective you have to attract both boys and girls. That's how it is.

Last comment because we are going way, way , way off topic.

The pattern is changing I think, yes. Why? Because of pressure. These sorts of articles are part of that pressure. Businesses are almost entirely reactive, you have to create the drive elsewhere. Which is why there are a lot of articles about the lack of Rey toys and action figures for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Because if you don't club them over the head with the fact there's a market, they just carry on the way they always did.

I'm sure I could wrap this back around into the short sightedness of Disney's Parks strategy to hit the off-topic trifecta!

when lucas was doing promotions for empire strikes back he revealed that the plan was for 9 movies.

That is indeed true. However, at various times, he has claimed that there were originally going to be 6, 9, and even 12 movies. As nearly as I can tell, he had a rough sketch of the big picture flow of the story, and that's it. Anything else was what he was thinking/feeling/threatening at the moment.

I'm going to stop here because I don't want to get the thread off topic, but how much of the movie did Mulan spend as a man? And how much was Mulan's character utilized compared to Mushu (his whole feature in DHS)? And a whole other rabbit trail the article didn't focus on was the transformation of POC compared to other characters (Tiana/Naveen -> Frogs, Kuzco -> Llama, Kenai -> Bear, Mulan -> man, etc)

Well, but that wasn't the point in Mulan. The whole legend of Mulan is a testament of females being just as capable as males, if not more so. You could argue that Rapunzel, Tiana, Merida or Anna and Elsa are still the focus of their movies, no matter how many males those films have. If the number of lines male characters speak in a film is a subliminal message to take power away from the female protagonists, then I guess it hasn't worked so far. Elsa still sells quite a lot of merchandise... Both to boys and girls.

I know this is a controversial topic, but that's just an opinion.

Back on topic, thanks Rteetz for the Tony Baxter interview. I always enjoy reading his opinions.

Some of the photos coming into from this area of Disney Springs are gorgeous...and the area is not even completed as of yet. In the past, we never planned time at Downtown Disney because quite frankly, there wasn't anything there that caught our interest, and the theming was 90s garish. Now...we plan time in our trips specifically for Disney Springs. The Boathouse is a fabulous location for eating (albeit pricey), and we enjoy the atmosphere in Morimoto's, as well as Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar. The design of The Landing is great also, and my wife and I love the Marketplace Co-op. Once you can actually walk around the Springs area itself, this will force several visits for us at least during each trip. This transformation into DS has made this a destination for us now each time we go to WDW.

Yep same. Quit DTD years ago but this has been a vast improvement already. Can't wait to stroll around after dinner with a drink at night when its finished.

Well...obviously there's some missing info here...

"Went back to enjoying their day..."
Was that before or after Nana had palpitations?

The other thing I missed was when ak started keeping black mamba, gaboon vipers, and king Cobras in open pens next to the flights of wonder...

They should be more careful.

We had a cottonmouth come into our backyard when I lived in Orlando...
It was "extracted"...those ARE dangerous. It's life in Florida.

They actually are designed to harvest the sun for energy... Storing it in an oscillator far under ground for future use that may or may not involve destroying multiple planets.

Hopefully they are gone in 2 weeks when we get there!
