Yes, but again, construction for the cabins had started. If you stayed there in Jan 2015, you would have seen only trees. If you happen get a good view after trees are cleared but before they started building that makes you lucky. Ruining a good view implies that there was always a good view, not that there was a good view for 6 months after 20 years of no view and now it's ruined by cabins.

Personally, I think looking at trees is preferable to looking at the roofs of other building. I think that's what people are referring to with "ruining the view." We stayed at VWL many times, on both sides of the building, and always had a nice tree view, even on the side that faced the bus stop because the trees were so thick. View didn't really matter. In the future, we'll now request the side that faces the bus stop to still get that woodsy feel that we enjoy.
