News Round Up 2016

Disney Auditions has posted for the holiday shows. Looks like the new Christmas stage show will feature live vocals. Specifically for the female vocalists, they are looking for someone with experience in Latin style music, with a preference towards someone who is bilingual.

This is the second call this year for Latin/bilingual vocalists (the first being Elena of Avalor), and the 3rd for performers under a 2-3 month contract (the others being Elena vocalists and Prince Charming/Cinderella actors). Reaching a bit here, but I wonder if these 3 calls are all for the same show, or if there will several short-term shows in the fall/winter

The Rogue One rewrites to change the "tone" of the movie ... do they not have elaborate storyboards covering the plot, action and pacing? And don't they have script read-throughs with the cast?

It sounds like either some elemental, prudent steps were skipped in a rush to cash in on Force Awakens, or else there is some kind internal power struggle over who gets control over the final cut.

If (b) then perhaps whoever was supervising the storyboard and script polishing has been replaced and the new alpha gorilla is throwing their weight around and sparing no expense in order to portray himself or herself as a Great Fixer.

What are you talking about, all the stuff opening at DAK was just last week and there was a TON of discussion about it here on the thread with posts and videos and reviews and such. Soon we'll have FEA and Soarin 2.0: World Buggalo. Plus the new castle show. Plus the new fireworks at DHS. Plus the construction updates. Plus they just announced a new rip-off event at AK for the evening safari. More been going on the last month than for ages.

You know I'm into development...not opening dates. I'm pretty consistent there...

But I'm sorry...have we met before? Look at that list and ask yourself what is my cup of tea?

The opening of springs (little if any discussion), restaurants, and the animal kingdom machinations - yes...

Elsa's boat cruise? Castle stage shows? Upsells?

Sorry...that's not me. Not saying it's not Important to many...but superficial to some old dogs.

I'm interested in the Star Wars fireworks though...that at least offers something different than the current lineup of plush based shows and projections.

I think there "1 every year" is gonna be problematic until they have multiple crews that can do everything - which I'm sure they don't now.

That's not enough time to make good movies...so you get transformers, ninja turtles, or fast and furious.

So in the new soarin theatre there was a sign on the wall near the point where you enter the three separate areas to board -- It said people prone to motion sickness bla bla, but added expect sudden drops and rises-- can't exactly remember the wording... but maybe the physical portion of the ride will be better also?

I'm sure they can use the mechanisms more...but I bet it's just more a no lawsuit language added by legal just cause they can.

Have you seen the video with the giant Kong animatronic? We're talking yeti size and he works.

Well...I bet they didn't put it into a spot where it can't be removed, repaired, or serviced...

...which in retrospect never made any sense on any level.

Some other info I read about Rougue One - this report at least saying the reshoots are due to the "tone" of the movie and executives wanting it to have more lighthearted moments and not be a "war movie"

"According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is set to end ten minutes before the events of A New Hope. It was recently revealed that the film will have several re-shoots in mid-June.

The reason for this is that Disney executives saw the film and thought it was tonally different from a “classic” Star Wars movie. The cut they saw was described as having the tone of a war movie. The re-shoots are designed to add a “sense of fun” to the film.

A source said: “This is the closest thing to a prequel ever. This takes place just before A New Hope and leads up to the 10 minutes before that classic film begins. You have to match the tone! Anything less than extraordinary won’t do.“ "
I think they set themselves up for a darker tone though. The preview they put out was dark as all heck and honestly I liked it and would be one who would like to see a darker movie. But money is money and they still want the younger audience to see it

I have never seen a single item on WDW property, in the grand culinary scheme of things, that -really- qualifies as 'adventurous'. It's not as if they're serving puffer fish or tripe or sweetbreads or something. I understand that people have food preferences, and that is their prerogative - but there is no reason guests cannot look at a menu before dining. Most of them have their faces buried in a phone screen anyhow - put it to good use. And if worse comes to worse, and they find zero acceptable options, they can leave and eat somewhere else.

It's just so crazy to me because Skipper Canteen's menu is really fairly basic. Some of the app and a few entree choices are a little more interesting, but it generally follows the WDW protein, starch, veggie formula.

The new Nomad Lounge *does* have head cheese on their charcuterie plate. I think that's the 'weirdest' I've seen on property. It was pretty good, too.

This is some BIG reshooting when stunts are also all being redone (40% of the movie is the current accepted knowledge of how much they want to reshoot)...look for that December opening date to be in trouble and possibly kicking the movie to the May Pirates date...unless Disney will do in movies what it has stopped doing in parks - getting things done well, and quickly...http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/star-wars-rogue-one-enlists-899530?utm_source=twitter

But you said - "there's nothing be talked about"...not that "there is nothing being talked about that I like".

I'll cop to the latter...not entirely sure I'm wrong on the former, either ;)

I guess it's part disappointment...for all that's supposed to be "going on" this year...there is really little sizzle in the Swamp. I did not expect that.
I mean - are you happy with the animal kingdom rollouts?

It hasn't been done well and is underwhelming based on the reviews I've looked at so far...maybe growing pains? Or perhaps they just can't get anything done?

This is the same worry many of us have had for along time. For me...it set in when I completed the first lap of "new fantasyland" and then looked for the construction walls where the rest of it was hiding...

Just me, I guess ;)

But at least the prices haven't gone up, right?

Agree...the info leaked and Disney is trying to tone down the narrative now.

I think it's a quagmire behind the scenes...personally.

I think Edwards made what he likes: modern sci fi with a graphic novel kinda edge to it.

Just like Abrams made what he likes: safe reboots.

One is very product friendly...one isn't. Which one does Disney like?

I stopped reading when I saw quotes that said "Disney doesn't like the feel..."

Igers feel of "feel" has been awful.

The marvel movies are starting to get run into a crisscrossed convuluted mess...Pixar is becoming a sequel factory (everyone loves Cars at Walmart!!!)...

...this isn't looking good either.

I'm happy with AK being open at night. I'm happy with what's coming. So are many other people. Sure Disney can and should do better. Are they? No we know that. This thread isn't just catering to "your news".

You're not "happy" with anything...you haven't seen it.

Neither have I...but the indications so far are a bit apprehensive. I'll reserve final judgement but skepticism is warranted.

The point was...don't pick and choose what sidebars are "ok"...that skippers stuff was nonsense...either it all is or it isn't.

It's been going on around here since day one...but i still don't see this continued obsession with limiting people's ability to discuss.

You're preserving the "purity" of a 400 page thread?

Does seem a little weird, no?

I'm not giving credit to Disney. I'm just saying there are plans in place and the yeti can be fixed. Is Disney fixing it? No but you claimed it couldn't be serviced, removed or repaired, when in fact it can be.

10 years in an amusement park known to draw fleeting attention?

How far offbase am i? They haven't been able to fix it - by choice or chance. It really doesn't matter because the net effect is the same.

As far as "plans"...do I need to say it?
I won't.

Why does it matter if I've seen it or not. AK is my favorite park and it keeps getting better in my opinion.

I just don't want this thread to be an endless discussion and then have the links that I and other post get lost.

If you don't like it don't post here.
