News Round Up 2016

Bill Murray and Christopher Walken were inspired casting. The CGI effects were phenomenal. If the animals were not talking, I'd almost think they were real. I loved the little Timon & Pumba notes, and I loved the cowbell. Though, probably, there could have been more cowbell.

I have not read any of the books, but my cousin has and loves them. A Kingdom Keepers franchise would probably kill at the box office.

An updated article regarding Favreau's Magic Kingdom movie. Pretty much says the same thing.

I've read all the books and my daughter is now reading them - I think it would be great and could really go after that tween/teen audience as well

Plus the books go to all the parks (not just MK) and then even get to a Disney Cruise so they could be good promotional material as well

I completely agree with your entire post, but wanted to touch on this point.

I think he is a fantastic director, and I think he took a lot of care with this movie. He knows a lot about the history of The Walt Disney Company and seems to be a big fan. I hope the success of this movie allows him to get some traction on the Magic Kingdom Movie he's been wanting to make.

Just to be clear, I wasn't suggesting anything but. I'm just floored at the director he's become because I would never have predicted it happening. Ever.

I think it would do marvelously well. I mean, what's the downside? Like @TheMaxRebo said, great promotional material!

The only downside or reason I could see Disney being hesitant to do it, would be that it does show behind the scenes of some of the attractions and they go "off stage" - I know as far as tours go Disney doesn't want kids under a certain age attending as they don't want them to see behind the magic of how things are made

Valid point. But I'm sure they'd find a way around showing that stuff.

I guarantee you that won't be the movie. It will show how the magic is really magic, and not pieces and parts.

Walt wasn't hesitant to show what goes on behind the scenes and how things were done at Disneyland on his TV show. It made the attractions the imagineers came up with, IMO, that more magical. To think, what was their creative process and how did it evolve into what we enjoy today.

Not sure when this "let's hide everything" mantra came into being. If kids were more exposed to the workings of the parks, they might be inspired to learn more about the technology and creativity that went into building these beloved attractions.

That's actually a really good point - I recall that clip of Walt with one of the Tiki Bird animatronics

The one I always think of is when Walt is showing off the designs of Rolly Crump's "Museum of the Weird", later to be titled "The Haunted Mansion".

I feel like all the Disney shows on the Travel Channel do this, but to a much lesser extent. More promotional than informational. The most recent ones I watched had to do with Disney Cruise Line. Still enjoyable, but not quite like what I've seen what Walt used to do.

(Edited "More promotional and informational." to "More promotional than informational.".)

My wife and a good friend of hers have been in WDW the past few days. They were on the 2nd floor deck of Morimoto Asia that overlooks The Springs so they grabbed a few photos.

If you enlarge the photo you can see the small lanterns floating in the water. I know you can't see them that easily but they also have the twinkle lights in the trees in the new section.

I am a big fan of some of the theming in WDW. Areas like Harambe, Anadapur and Serka Zong in DAK, as well as NFL in MK, are exceptionally well-themed. I think that you will be able to add this particular section of DS to that list. I can definitely see us frequenting The Springs (and The Landing) quite often on each future trip.

I'm also a fan of those areas, and this looks great. Thanks for sharing the photos! I can't wait to see it for myself in a couple of months!
