News Round Up 2016

DH said they should put it in Vegas. I think that's a brilliant idea. Orlando might be a little saturated. Ferrari already knows how to do an indoor park, which would be nice in Vegas. There are probably casinos willing to partner with them. Also, it gives something for kids to do. We never take our son to Vegas, because it's not really a great place for kids. However, this would appeal to both kids and adults. Plus, Vegas gets a lot of foreign visitors with money, who would be one of the main targets, and they would also get the Southern California crowd. Land in Vegas is plentiful and cheap. Also, there are supposedly rumors of a second US F1 track in Vegas, which I think Ferrari would love to tie in with such a park.

I agree. Vegas sounds like a better destination for a Ferrari World. I do believe Orlando is already kind of saturated as far as theme parks goes. Plus, it fits better with the already existing Ferrari attractions in Dubai and Spain.

Haven't seen JB yet, but I hope the sequel isn't (just) a cash grab.

I mean, any movie Disney puts out will technically be a "cash grab" but I can see it working if they use one of the stories from "The Second Jungle Book".

"The Jungle Book" (2016) took inspiration from the Disney classic, "The Jungle Book" book, and also "The Second Jungle Book" book. The story "How Fear Came" in "The Second Jungle Book" is about the "water truce". Mowgli and the animals gather at a shrunken river during a drought and the elephants tell the story of how the first tiger got it's stripes.

I can see the sequel working if they take "The Spring Running" story. Mowgli is 17 and starting to grow restless. As he is randomly running through the jungle he comes across the village where is adopted mother is living with her other son. Mowgli is battling his desire to stay with his mother or return to the jungle.

While it was made clear Mowgli in "The Jungle Book" (2016) was raised by wolves, they never touched on his human mother. Just what happened with his dad (trying to stay cryptic for spoilers). So replacing his adopted mother from the book with his birth mother in the movie, it could end up working...maybe.

Yeah - I agree the one place this movie split from the animated movie was with the ending.
The animated movie ended with him being reunited with the human village. This movie ends with him still in the jungle with his "family". so there is definitely opportunity there to explore what happens when he is re-united with humans.

The movie was surprisingly good. (I say surprising because I think the animated movie is kind of boring except for a few scenes.) I wouldn't have as high hopes for a sequel.

As I was posting yesterday, I was actually on my way to the IMAX to see it.
Like others, the Jungle Book has never been a particular favorite.
This film was pretty great. Jon Favreau is a far better director than he has any right to be. This is the dude from Swingers, after all.

Bill Murray and Christopher Walken were inspired casting. The CGI effects were phenomenal. If the animals were not talking, I'd almost think they were real. I loved the little Timon & Pumba notes, and I loved the cowbell. Though, probably, there could have been more cowbell.

During at least one scene, and I'm sure those who've seen it know which scene, I wondered how long it would take them to do a realistic version of the Lion King. It can't be too far off.

I hope they don't touch that one.
Hope all you want. Nothing is safe nor sacred.
Personally, I've enjoyed most of these adaptations and consider them separate from the animated films.
Maleficent was an interesting alternative take. The Jungle Book improved upon the original (for me). Cinderella, though, felt a bit redundant.
Quality is the name of the game for me.

Though I'm fully prepared to hate Pete's Dragon.

I completely agree with your entire post, but wanted to touch on this point.

I think he is a fantastic director, and I think he took a lot of care with this movie. He knows a lot about the history of The Walt Disney Company and seems to be a big fan. I hope the success of this movie allows him to get some traction on the Magic Kingdom Movie he's been wanting to make.

Sounds like a take on Kingdom Keepers, and I'd see that in a heartbeat.
