News Round Up 2016

This is where it started:

The guy isn't always right, but he's certainly one of the most consistently accurate voices out there. Don't take what he has to say lightly.

It's the same mistake people always make with rumors though. They assume it either is true or false. They never allow for the possibility that it was under consideration and plans have changed.

Admittedly the notion this one might ever have been seriously considered is an alarming thought...

Sometimes he's just been mathematically wrong. As in I can look in released data of the WDC and see he's wrong. Of course other times he's right. DVC at Wilderness lodge and Staggs being two very very high profile direct hits. He was on the ball. Also the cruise ships he got almost 100% right. Though you're correct that there is ambiguity and room for changes. Me personally? I think this was and perhaps is a real project. I just doubt it comes to fruition.

Free dining dates from Pete

"Follow up - hearing free dining dates as 8/23-10/1, 11/15-11/21, 11/26-11/28,12/10-12/21 - this is not confirmed yet."
I'd be really surprised if those are the dates. For one, I've never seen any part of Thanksgiving week included before.

If there's one thing that Disney Parks history can teach us it's that plans are in flux more than they are constant. The list of projects and rides that never quite happened is very long.

That would be an awfully early start on the front end.

They pretty much have to offer it for Magical Dining Month. Who would do signature sit downs for 3 courses for $100+/person on Disney property (dealing with the hell of ADRs and no show fees) when you could go to any other Orlando signature and do the same for $33-$35 + tax/tip (and have a small part support a charity). It's why that month is always gonna have free dining. Disney is the only proprietor that doesn't participate at all in this charitable program (although Swan/Dolphin restaurants do) and they would get clobbered that month without it. So, the earlier August date probably corresponds to the MDM start date.

The other times are odd and very short. I wouldn't be surprised to see the winter ones go away...

That's not something they typically care about or schedule around, so not sure why it would be this year. Many people don't venture off property at all, so that wouldn't affect them much.

They've had free dining for the entire period of Magical Dining Month since it's inception. In fact, I think free dining is as old as Magical Dining Month (11 years if you count this year). Was Magical Dining Month an Orlando-area response to Free Dining in the beginning? Probably. Does that calculus reverse now? I don't doubt it, especially since the dates now usually line up perfectly...

Last year the MDM started Aug 24, and free dining started Aug 28. Typically the public free dining offer is less generous on the front end than the free dining bounceback for the year, which offered a start date of Aug 26 for this year. Free dining is always offered for most of September, but hasn't been for the entire month at least once in recent history.

I'm not sure that "Hey something else is worse!" is a great defense really. I've been plenty critical of DHS, but the subject that came up this time was Jungle Cruise.

Jungle Cruise may well have been state of the art in its day, but that day has long since passed.
The same can be said of many other Disney attractions, but they'll still popular, along with the JC.

I like those Star Wars pins:)

I shall personally enjoy some alcoholic beverages on our next trip, while my family waits in line for that ride.

You are giving me ideas:scratchin

Every ride(with a lengthy wait), should have a ride "lounge" to wait for whomever, while enjoying a beverage.

I agree::yes::

they should serve in line---- I think I need to open a new park...... all the rides will be awesome... eventually.....

Totally agree, except on Forbidden Journey, Tea Cups, and Storm Force Accelatron (Universal). Gringott's at Universal has a cart next to the line that sells canned beer and cider. Mixed drinks would be better though.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ First I'd seen an actual, numerical date other than the year 2016. You'd know better than I would though! Sorry if it's a repeat.
When they announced 30 new venues a while back they said that they would start opening things on May 15th. The only thing that I think is different this time is they specifically said Town Center is opening then.
