News Round Up 2016

Well, wouldn't they use the Frozen ride to promote the summer season at WDW if the ride was opening soon? The stuff they've been airing during the winter season is mostly focused on Star Wars, so that sounds to me like they are not ready to open Frozen for the summer season. That may not sound really significant, but it's definitely a factor to consider.

I don't actually remember if 7DMT appeared in ads until after soft or official opening. I think there is a fine line between tempting guests that haven't booked yet and frustrating guests who are just about to arrive.

People will see a second-hand Facebook rumor and just run with it I guess.

ETA: As suspected, the facebook post in question said nothing of the sort (re: Fall opening)

Looks like the Frozen attraction being built in Norway at Epcot still has a ways to go. I took this shot a couple of days ago. The opening date for the new ride was originally May 2016 but now I'm hearing it will take a little longer. There was a fire at the construction site in September of 2015 (luckily with no injuries), I don't know if that had any affect on the construction delay, but it certainly is possible. ~ Marilyn

This is in line with what @rteetz has already been saying

Other than the one drop there isn't much to the ride it's basically pirates the rest of the time.

Which is why I was considering it. But that one drop is kind of a big deal to someone who suffers from vertigo. I'd probably enjoy being punched repeatedly more than that.

I have a friend that I travel with frequently who is "afraid" of coaster type rides. She was afraid of Splash too, until she rode it the first time. Finally, after she rode 7DMT - (not sure why she wanted to do this one, but she suggested it and she loved it) - I convinced her to go on Big Thunder, and again, she LOVED it. Now we are working on her keeping her eyes open, (no wonder she gets queasy on Soarin', !!), and letting go of the death grip she has on the handle. I could NEVER get her on RNRC, or probably Space Mountain, and I don't even try. But she's finding that some of her "fear" was more from what others had told her, and never materialized when she finally tried it. We're getting there!

Space Mountain is the best... what is it 27mph? Its the same speed as Goofy's roller coaster.... I will never understand the fear of that one. Then as you noted people say "because its dark", and then you watch them on other rides and they close their eyes... WHAAAAT? :D :D

If you've not done it, the drop is relatively insubstantial. To me it feels like going down about a foot, maybe two. I never even feel like the boat is tilting. I understand if that's still a problem.. just wanted to accurately position the "drop".

To be fair... the drop isn't that big, but based on your descriptions there is a different part of the ride that might be.

There is a point in the middle where you actually leave the water go onto rollers, and go through 2 or 3 quick "bumps" in the dark and then hit the water and immediately turn right into a loud and bright area. Its fun but can be disorientating.

In my case it's not a question of fear so much as the unpleasant sensations created by those sort of rides. I tried 7DMT because it supposed to be very tame, but it made me feel sick. I've noticed that people who like roller coasters have a really hard time accepting that I actively dislike the feelings.

Rteetz I assume you had some Avatar updates while I was down there, but was so out of the loop. Anyway took a few shots.

Now here's something I can be positive about. I think the floating mountains are going to look absolutely amazing when they are complete. It may end up being the most amazing structure in a Disney Park anywhere.

It's the inside of Splash that I can't take. The big drop is nothing for me. Normally my husband uses my band to take the kids one at a time, but last trip we were running too late in the window for them to make it through separately. Best pic ever!

They try to convince me to ride every time, but I just can't handle it. Makes me nauseous just thinking about it. Lol

I'm with you. I can even sacrifice ride QTY for an amazing atmosphere to look at. Even HP really only added a couple rides, but the atmosphere is amazing.

:offtopic: I'll post this last one, then drop it...

believe me, I understand about the different reasons folks don't like some types of rides, and I'd never suggest anything like "it's all in your head" cause you don't like something I think is great. But I thought I'd let you know that one of the things that does help my friend to keep from getting motion sickness is "Bonine"...whether or not this is something you think would help, or you just want to NOT be pressured into riding, or maybe just don't want to take pills, I understand, it all supposed to be fun, right?! And if it isn't for you, there is no right or wrong here, it's one of the things that makes people different!

I am dropping the subject now. :o

Those are some great photos, thanks for sharing!

I received a Summer promotion code in the mail with a lot of hype about Frozen Ever After, the ride coming Summer 2016. Who knows what "Summer" means to Disney.
There was no mention of the Meet & Greet so maybe that part is delayed? It wouldn't surprise me if it was a lower priority as they are doing M&Gs in MK already.

Nice shots! I have seen most of those angles except for the second photo. I have not seen that one before.

What's your guess on the holes in the mountains in the 5th shot?

Just the end of the beams protruding? Or some future addition like water falls or lights or something?

The holes are where there used to be scaffolding. They cut it off and will patch that up.

If you look on the still attached levels just below, you can see where the structure beams are still protruding out to support scaffolding. Very clever.
