I agree. I imagine that the vast majority of rentals result in at least one extra call -- when the renter calls MS to confirm a reservation has actually been made. I don't know how many reservations are rentals so I have no idea what percentage of calls this will eliminate, but every bit helps.dianeschlicht said:But if you are getting paid for renting your points, then the extra time should be on your part rather than all the rest of us who do not rent but also help to pay for MS calls with dues. Seems to me it is an investment of time for what you are paid from your renter.
I'm GLAD it is "MEMBER services"!!!! The fact that DVC took this move leads me to believe that WAY too many calls were being handled for Non-members. Maybe now the service and attitudes of MS cast members will be better as well.![]()
yeah right.Johnnie Fedora said:Looks like a good reason for members to start asking for more than $10/rental point.![]()
$12-16 would be a better going rate!!
Is there ANYTHING Johnnie doesn't think is a good reason to raise rental prices???I rarely disagree with Doc, but I'd vote "Nay" on that. We KNOW the number. Publishing it would just generate non-member calls and excessive MS time explaining why they couldn't help the caller.WebmasterDoc said:I will assume that this change will include ALL phone numbers for MS- both the 1-407 and 1-800 numbers.
If that is the case, perhaps we should revisit the current DIS policy prohibiting posting the 800 number on the boards.
Deb & Bill said:A member crook could change the reservation the morning of check in if they really wanted to. They could cancel or change the dates. They might not even care if the points went into holding. They could change the name on the reservation to a person who paid them more for a last minute reservation if they really wanted to.
The member making a reservation for a non-member can still give them a copy of the confirmation with their name on it.
PamOKW said:DVC has always made it very clear that they want no part of the member rental world. It appears by the activity on these boards alone that the number of people renting has greatly increased over the last five years. If DVC gets involved with dealing directly with renters regarding their reservations they become part of the transaction -- something they probably also want no legal part of either.
If someone wants to rent, fine. But it is upon them to do all the work to get the $$ -- members don't need to subsidize the transactions with free DVC help.

When I rented in January (from a trustworth, honest member), there was a mix up at member services and our reservation was cancelled. I had called to remove one name from our reservation and discovered I had no reservation. I called the member, left a message for him, and he soon called me back to let me know that he had corrected the problem. Now I won't know if there is a problem until I arrive. I hope there are not glitches in my September rental.

It makes me wonder if perhaps DVC does read and react to these boards. Can anyone find that post? I know he was saying how much work MS has, because of non-members' calls.
