News Flash Ms Call Changes!!!

I've never had any problems using Disney Dine either. I prefer to make ADRs that way over taking up MS' time for that. I have NEVER had any trouble either, but then I usually give the confirmation number at the begining.

There is a renter on another thread who was told by Disney Dining that she would have to have the owner call MS and get DDP for her. I guess because we get DDP without strings, the owner has to make the call to ensure that it is a points ressie.

She was also told DDP will be $38.99 per adult day in 2007, BTW.

"To maximize the availability of reservations for these permitted purposes, Disney Vacation Club closely monitors reservations and may cancel reserved accommodations if a pattern of rental activity for profit is discovered."

The preceeding is the quote from Disney in their recent e-mail...this is a very scary situation in tha Disney MAY cancel reservations that THEY determine are "a pattern of rental activity for profit". I do not recall anywhere that you were restricted in any rental activity from making a profit. Rental activity has specificaly been allowed in all of the POS literature timeshare documents. Indeed, the only restriction has been from commercial rental activity...whatever that is...I am not sure it has been defined. I hope the day will never come where a guest shows up at Disney's door to find tha DISNEY canceled their reservation without the guest's or the member's knowledge by "enforcing" some quasi rental policy

I have never used MS for ADR making either. Disney Dining has better hours, which suits my after 5pm and weekend planning sessions! :thumbsup2

I wonder what you were trying to book. The only time Disney Dining didn't work for me was when I was trying to do something related to a Grand Gathering. Usually I'm just asked where I'm staying.

I was booking ADR's for 2 people. When I gave the confirmation number it didn't come up in their computer. She informed me that The DVC used a different reservation system. I have always used the 1 407 # to book my ADR's. This was my first experience with the DVC. I didn't know at the time that a phone number could be given. I told her we were staying a VWL. I have noticed since that different CM and MS rep's give different info on the same day.

I'd be amazed to see that. As I've said before, DVC does not want Mickey to look like The Grinch on crack.

I think what we are seeing currently is a general and rather stern reminder to everyone about what the rules say, but I don't expect general, uniform enforcement. My prediction is they'll do something like this:
  1. Identify specific rental behaviors they consider offensive, and the methods by which those are conducted. It's obvious to me they've already at least partially completed this step, because they've identified issues with certain transfers.
  2. Make a general notification of the issue and their available enforcement tools. Done.
  3. Identify specific member accounts they believe are engaged in problematic behavior. Two day job max, probably already done.
  4. Personally notify the individual account holders they consider problematic of what DVC considers objectionable behavior in their account, and notify them that those type requests will no longer be honored. Probably already in progress is my guess.
  5. Monitor those accounts closely (and I'd bet it's a very small minority of accounts, even among those who rent regularly). In progress.
  6. If something slips under the radar, cancel the ressie without hurting innocent third parties. I'm sure they would never put themselves in the position of having someone show at WDW with nowhere to stay. If there was an innocent renter involved, they'd protect them somehow, probably from their own inventory if necessary.

I'd be willing to bet these announcements will not affect the vast majority of owners who rent or transfer points for normal purposes. I think it will affect a few large commercial points brokers who are running their businesses in ways DVC did not anticipate, and has the power to stop.

Based on my own experience the last 2 days, I feel that non-member calls were really tying up MS lines.
Over the past year, I can barely remember a time when I called MS and didn't have to wait at least 5 minutes to speak with a CM.
My calls in the past 2 days (1 today, 1 yesterday) were answered immediately.
IMO, the enforcement of these policies are a great benefit to DVC Members!

I agree that this will not affect the vast majority of DVC owners at all- but I disagree that DVC did not anticipate it- specific language about it has been in the contracts since day 1 and that language has never been changed in later POS documents. That would suggest, to me at least, that DVC had thought it thru from the very beginning and it has finally reached a point where some action is needed so it doesn't get even worse.

I seriously doubt that would happen, there would be no reason for them to wait that long, when they could simply cancel it at the time of booking or shortly thereafter.

The guest renting would be the innocent in that situation with the Member being the one held responsible.

I think the change to members only is great!!! I always thought it should be that way. I also don't care if DVC starts to crack down on "renting for profit" if it makes it easier for actual "members" to get the reservations they want. :)
