Newport to Palm Springs?

Hi all, can anyone tell me the quickest and easiest way to get from Newport Beach to Palm Springs? We are planning on going on Sunday 1st May.

I would think that you could take the 55-east to the 5-north and then 91-east -- that will take you to Palm Springs.

Add the 10 east to Mary Jo's directions after the 91 east (which will turn into the 215 North), And you can take the 5 north out completely--the 55 goes directly to the 91. otherwise you'll end up in Victorville (and if you keep going, Barstow, then Vegas).
