Newest Rental Cars at MCO

And they do charge for "self upgrades" :rotfl2: Several months ago I had to "back" away from the gate at National because the man in front of me had "self upgraded" to a minii van because he was "executive" Apprently when they told him the "upgrade" price he decided he could live with a car! (Agent told me this when apologizing for the mess he made of the check out lanes)

Yep, they sure do charge for upgrades. It makes me nuts when they do this and then get angry at me cause they took their entitlement mentality a step too far.

Did you know there is a "new car smell" air freshener? Helpful for rental agencies. :)

If you are an Emerald Club member, and you rent a mid-size car from a location with the Emerald Aisle, you can choose from whatever is in the Emerald Aisle. The only times I've gotten something less than an SUV are the times I've *wanted* less than an SUV. We've found that the Camry is an *excellent* car for good mileage on longer trips (not a mid-size class, but also not an SUV). So it's an "upgrade", but they don't *give it* to us; it just happens, if/when there are cars "higher" than a mid-size class in the Aisle. See what I'm saying?

Also, mousesavers really indicates that there's a charge for the Emerald Club, but DH signed up and got it free without going through them, just by going through the National site. I'm not sure there IS a charge for it anymore; I think it's flat out free now.

I love it when you post behind me. :) You say things so much better than I do.
We don't use the new car spray, not sure what we use.
I keep on meaning to email Mary and tell her that National no longer charges a fee to join EC, but, I keep on forgetting. It is that CRS setting in.

Yes I know the rules. I assumed it was either a new guy at the counter or something.
The lady may have let us go because there were several cars behind us. She said don't expect it to happen again.
But like I said we were offered a free upgrade when we were there in nov. we walked out and the guy said would you like a free upgrade to an suv we have several to choose from.
I don't know if it was because they had a whole bunch of SUVs there or it was 930 at night. Maybe he felt for us I don't know but it was a nice gesture.
So I assume that is just up to the person working inn the garage if they can upgrade. But I have heard of others who were offered upgrades too when coming out.

Why did you go to the National counter? I thought the Emerald Club lets you just go right to the garage if you book a mid-sized?

You do go right to the garage if you rent via the Emerald Club sign in.

No, it is not just up to the person working in the garage. It is up to management as to what/if we can upgrade someone to. Sometimes we can, sometimes we cannot. We are told at the start of our shift what the plan for the day is. If someone "needs" a mini van, but, only rented a midsize and we are not allowed to upgrade, we can send them over to the manager and they can make a decision, either upgrade them for free or upgrade them for a fee.
I enjoy making customers happy by upgrading them when I can, but, I do NOT make that decision, people higher up on the "food chain" make that call.

I got a 2013 Grand Caravan from the Emerald Aisle and it only had 330 miles on it. It is in great condition, I am happy.
