Newest "Moms to Be" Thread

Hello everyone!!!

I'm sorry I haven't check in lately!! I went into labor 2 more times and they stopped it yet again. Miss Ava is still baking away and I've been doing great for the last few days! I believe she's settled down now. I am now 2cm dilated and 80% effaced. My OB is hopeful that I'll make it to the 30th which is my scheduled induction date. We are having to keep an eye on me though and I have apts every 3-4 days because I'm extremely swollen, my blood pressure is going up, and I'm spilling protein in my urine - so they are watching me for pre-ecclampsia. Bus as of right now we are fine and hoping Ava holds on until our scheduled date of December 30though. Ava's definitely dropped and I've I though I would share a comparison pic from 33 weeks to 35 weeks!

I was just thinking about you yesterday, wondering how you were doing. Glad to hear Ava is still cooking in there, but WOW! You really dropped! I think she just may have "Baby's 1st Christmas" this year!;)

It's time to post some more babies on the list! :goodvibes

Hey everyone!

Well, I set an induction date! If this boy isn't here by 12/18, I have an appointment set for 6am to have him taken out! :cool1:

My furniture finally arrive last weekend! Luckily it was preassembled, so my husband did not have to spend all day building a crib! If anyone is interested, we put pictures up:

Has anyone ever had an induction? This is my first, so i don't know what to expect either way!

Right now I can barely walk and it is a major event just to get off the couch! :lmao: Good thing I only have 11 more days!

The nursery looks wonderful! We're also doing an animal theme in our future daughter's room, but with different decor. I had this giraffe photo for a long time waiting for a baby's room to put it up in, and I just bought some of these wall decals today (the jungle, giraffe and elephant sets). We're choosing a cream wall color and darker brown trim, with some colorful accents, especially green.

P.S. That induction date makes a great birthday! I know from experience. ;)

You both hang in there! Your babies are almost ready! :cheer2: :cheer2:

How do you guys pick out nursery furniture? The only place around here that I know to go buy one and actually see it is Sears and they only have TWO!!

We're using a mocha brown as one of the accent colors in the nursery, which will involve some painting, too. We want to get the whole house painted before we start moving in and so DH wants to get a crib so we can match the browns together before we paint... but I'm having issues. I don't know how much/how little to spend.. what is good, what is not.

Oh my, there are SO many options!!

We haven't decided on furniture yet. We already have a dresser we'll use in the baby's room. We're still thinking about cribs. We've looked in person at BabiesRUs and Ikea, and are leaning towards Ikea's Gulliver crib. I've looked online at other places like JCPenney and Sears, but I have a modernist aesthetic so there hasn't been much I've found that I like. :(

Hmm.. I feel like it's a little early to be looking at this stuff, but I understand DH's point.
He's wanting to get it painted before we have to worry about me really being around it. Sweet, but putting a rush on things!! :)

I think we found one: http://www.amazon.com/DaVinci-Kalan...presso/dp/B0010TODHG/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
I'm going up to Babies R Us in Columbus, OH this weekend hope they have something from them in that Espresso color so I can get a better feel for it. If they do, I think we'll probably order it. It's got great reviews on Amazon and on Babies R Us other than scratching easy.. but everything scratches easy these days it seems..

Well I am very lucky and my sister is an interior designer with Robb and Stucky. She helped design our nursery, and we were able to get all of our furniture from there at cost. ( I can't beleive how much they mark stuff up!)

Other than JC Penney and Babies R Us, I don't know many places that sell baby furniture.

Do you have a Lonestar Baby nearby? I know they have nursery furniture.

I've never even heard of Lonestar Baby?

Our Pennys has a joke selection of baby stuff. It used to be huge but it's barely existant now (even for clothes). Sears has a better selection, but only a few cribs. Toys R Us here one or two cribs out, but most of their stuff is car seats, strollers, pack n plays, etc.

What a pretty crib. Will look good for a boy or a girl!

Couple of things to think of when buying a crib (since I bought 2 in 2 years):

Are you planning on having more kids? If so, how far between? If closer together, you will need to buy another crib.;)

Are you planning on using it as a toddler bed? If yes, does the conversion rail come with it. How much extra if it doesn't? (DS#1's did not come with the rail (even though my mom paid $500 for the crib). Had to order it separate and pay extra. DS hated it and it was down in a week.

Are you planning on using the crib as a headboard? Remember that these turn into full-size, not queen, beds.

Like I said before, my mom paid $500 for DS#1's crib. DH and I bought DS#2's and spent half that amount. Both cribs are beautiful, have been safe and have worked well for us. We got one from Babies R Us and one from Burlington Coat Factory. I think you found a great deal on Amazon, especially with the free shipping!

How far from Columbus are you?

We ordered our set for DS from Target online. I was very happy with it.

I envy you guys that havea nursery to decorate. I live in a small 3 bedroom, and we have no extra rooms. The kids' rooms only have room for a twin bed, so one of them will be getting bunk beds when the baby is older-their rooms are tiny. Our room is a nice size, so the baby is bunking with us for at least the 1st year, and probably longer. Our house is great because it is free-part of dh's job. But a 4th bedroom would be wonderful!

2 hours.

My friend and I are going up Saturday to shop and spending the night because we have a flight out of Columbus International Sunday morning to Miami. Woohoo, vacation! :rotfl:

december, we don't really have a nursery right now but we will be buying one shortly (signing our lives away for a mortgage!). We live here for free so we're making quite a big sacrifice. Where we live now technically only has 1 bedroom and we don't use it because it's so small-- we use the family room as our room.
We're buying a 3 bedroom though so if this weren't our first baby, we'd be out of room too!!

I can't complain. Dh and I don't make much (I'm a public school teacher in MS, and dh makes a little less than I do), but the house is a big plus. We don't have a light bill, water bill, gas bill, or property taxes. Dh doesn't love his job, but he is doing it because of the load it takes off of us financially. One day he is going to figure out what he really wants to do with his life, and we'll buy a 4bedroom, but not in this economy!

I bought a playpen with a bassinet and changing table, and it fits nicely in our room. It is beige, so it blends. We have the matching swing and high chair in the dining and living room. I got a great deal (they were store display models) so I went ahead and bought them. I don't know where I'll put anything else! When the baby is big enough for toys, we'll be in trouble. But we'll make it work somehow! By then dh may have his dream job, and we may be in our own house.

Thats great! I wish people had more on display around here. I'd like to be able to SEE it and touch it and know if I really want it or not. I'd buy a display model too. It clearly works!!

..that is a crazy good deal! Free lodging and all. We're not really afraid to buy in this market because we're getting a deal. This house was listed at 20k more than we paid and the seller is paying our closing costs, too! DH is a disabled Vet so our funding fee is waived, we don't ahve to worry about mortgage insurance and we can keep the money we had saved for a down payment in savings because VA doesn't require a down payment (We were very happy to now have to pay this, now our savings will be an emergency fund in case something happens). All of the other fees (underwriting, processing, application, etc) are waived because I am an employee of the bank we are getting our mortgage through.
Other than basic payments for the house and hazard insurance, we will pay nothing to get this house. And our mortgage payment will be $419 ((we couldn't even RENT for that!))
We couldn't say no.

Sounds like you got a great deal, too!

Hearing that the gov't may be doing mortgages for 4.5% soon does make me want to buy! I've also been on a house plan craze lately. But a new house isn't anywhere in our budget! We were actually hoping for a chance at dh's aunt's house when she died (great old house, big rooms, on a pond) but her son decided to move in. I'm in school (working on my masters in school counseling) so we need to stay where we are until I'm finished anyway. I know you can't wait to decorate your new house, though!

Nope, I'm so ready!!
Your Aunt's house sounded nice.. bummer the son chose to move in.

I hope to eventually build a house. DH and I don't want to live here long term... so we'll probably get more financialyl sound and move somewhere to build. Maybe.
DH works for the federal government and it'd be hard to walk away from that job. He gets benefits based off his time in the military, too.. so even though he's only been there about 6 months, he's listed as being employed for 6+ years.
Sounds kinda like the situation you and your DH have... too good to walk away from it!!

My housing will be provided for the duration of my career too, which is really nice. So for the next 35 years or so, we're all set! Otherwise, I'm not sure we would be able to ever afford to have kids. I mean, we probably would anyway but we're in a half-decent financial sitch thanks to free housing.

We are very fortunate to have family members with used baby furniture that they are itching to give to us! That also saves a bundle. The "nursery" is quite small and I don't think we're doing a whole lot by way of decorating. No painting or anything like that. We have a few items we own already that are great for a baby's room. So, we've gotten off cheap again.

Finally! A new baby coming again!!! First I just want to say that your nursery is adorable. Especially the monkey hanging from the ceiling fan...that was my favorite!:goodvibes

I was induced with my last two pregnancies. Both times, I just had my water broken. I wouldn't feel anything for about 2-3 hours, then the contractions would start. They use cervidil for a lot of women to ripen their cervix, so you might get that. I didn't need it, because my cervix was always ready way too early.:rotfl: Anyway, that's an insert they put inside of you. Sometimes they give it to you the day before you go into the hospital, it all depends.

I know that they say that induced labor is harder, but I don't have anything else to judge by, since I was induced all three times I've given birth. If the labor really isn't as bad, then I will pray that my water breaks on its own this time!:lmao:

I had the cervidil procedure done but it was done the night before and then gave me pitocen to start inducing me the next morning. Neither was bad until my water broke and then the contractions were hard and fast (which have heard happens when iduced) but luckily I was only in hard labor for about 1 1/2 before they came with the epidural and then I was all ready to go. The pitocen is dripped through an IV.

Did you go to the new store at Polaris or the one at Sawmill?? I hear the new one at Polaris is supposed to be pretty big (combined with Toys R us)

Just wanted to check in and say hello to the new mommies and mommies to be.

Have a wonderful holiday!

There is a new Babies R us?

The hotel I got was up by Polaris, as that is the area that I know pretty well. I've only been there a few times, I just know it better than the other areas. :rotfl:

Where is this store?? :confused3

I know where the HUGE JPMorgan Chase Complex is if you turn left off the interstate. I got our room at the Wyngate.
