Newby question: Do you have to bank 2020 UY points before you can book 2021 UY Reservation?

Hi - we just recently purchased a contract for Copper Creek. Very excited!

My question: We have a Sept UY, so just got our points. We don't plan to use them until Nov 2021. Once we get to the 11 month mark (which will be the beginning of Dec 2020), do we have to have the 2020 points banked already, or can we book without having banked them yet?

The reason for my question: We have been toying with the idea of still using some of the 2020 points to actually visit for a short weekend (perhaps this coming January), to get a first taste as official DVC members. Because that idea is still being toyed with, I'm not quite sure that I want to bank all of our 2020 points yet. I would hate to bank them and then regret that I did so. So, if I don't have the 2020 points banked by the time I make the Nov 2021 reservation, will that be an issue?

Thanks for the replies!

You must bank the 2020 points before you can use them in 2021.

However, you can bank only what you need for your 2021 reservation and if you decide not to do your 2020 trip bank the rest before your normal banking deadline. You can bank as many times as you want.

Banking however is one direction and you can't borrow banked points.

If you need any of the 2020 points, then those Points need to be in banked status at the time of booking,

If you have enough 2021 points to book it, then do that and you can bank later. If you need at least some of them, when you go to book, it will allow you to bank them right as you are booking and you can choose how many...which would allow you to save some for later,

Now, if you decide later not to go and end up banking after the trip is booked, you will need to modify it so the newly banked points are used in the reservation. The system will not do this for you.

Another way after banking is to call MS and ask if they can reallocate banked points into your reservation.

If you call member services, they can do it for you. We have “saved” current points and borrowed future points before.
