Newbie trying to learn the ropes

This is my first post on these forums. I joined mostly because I would like to rent dvc points for my family's vacation next May. I have 2 questions atm, the first: if posts have the icon that looks like an envelope with a lock on it, does that mean the person is no longer renting points? and 2, I notice that many of the threads will say, "pm me if interested" but I can't pm anyone until I make more posts. Is there some way around that..ie, a different way to ask a poster about their offer, or do I just have to think up more things to chat about? Thanks for any help or advice!

1. I believe that if it is locked that means the points are no longer available. There are several informative FAQ threads on that board you can check to make sure.

2. You will have to have 10 posts to PM. Feel free to join in saying Welcome and Hello to others on this board, ask or answer questions on another board, or we have a Test Forum found in the Technical Support area of the boards down near the bottom of the main forum list. There is a link to it Stickied at the top of this board also. You can Post on the Test Board to increase your post count.
